How to fix spiral cable/clock spring assembly.
After multiple many, many hours of trying to put the spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel assembly, I've finally figured out how to do it
(provided none of the circuits/wires are broken). Following this guide: http://priuschat.com/threads/2006-pr...repair.148537/ The hardest part is putting it back together, and since the FRS assembly is a bit different than the Prius one, it can be tricky. Start by placing the end ribbon connector in the end piece, then aligning the ribbon to fall through the slot with the rotating wheels, start rotating the ribbon within the enclosure with it *half* closed until the ribbon has went around once, then continue winding the ribbon *while rotating the enclosure with wires sticking out* in the opposite direction until it'll slide into place. It's impossibly difficult to explain this in text, however if I ever for some reason need to take mine a part again or someone elses, I'll gladly document it with photos and or a video. Just posting this so if someone has troubles in the future, I urge you to PM me so I can save you some trouble and help out the best I can. I know this is an infuriating task and costs a few hundred to replace the assembly, so I'd love to help ![]() |

Well wish me luck! I am about to try this.
Bought a nrg short hub that requires removing the clock spring. My dumb ass thought i had to open it and messed up the alignment.

Did you happen to finish this? If it's still opened up, would you be able to take a photo of the ribbon cable inside? It would be interesting to see how many wires are in there. Thanks.

I just busted mine while working in there and re assembling it incorrectly. when the wheel went full lock it broke at the connection of one of the ribbons. If anyone knows where to get a new one I am in need. I never meant to open the thing in the first place and now i gotta find a new one lol. glad this isnt my daily. https://imgur.com/0s6JCzV
