I like this, but I'd want it a smidge dimmer just for night vision's sake.

It looks like something like this would work. As for the dimmer, something like this should work.
If anybody is really inclined, i'm sure you could find a simple potentiometer for cheaper as thats basically what a "dimmer" is.
