Passenger Window Dead...but different this time
Living in cold weather, I am used to having to re-set the windows so that they close after they give up after the open-dipsy doodle that they do.
I noticed today that the passenger window was in the dipped position and would not respond from the DS of the car. Dead when trying the PS switch also. I tried the reset routine where the DS is wound down and held for a few seconds. Did nothing for the PS. Tried to hold the PS switch down just to see if it made a difference. Nope. So the PS is non responsive in the dipped position and it is raining outside Is it possible that each window has a separate fuse? --*- |

Never mind. Found it. #14 in the engine compartment is for the PS window motor.

Bad news is that the fuse is not blown. Worse news is that I am driving around with a piece of pipe insulation stradling the window to keep the water out of the car!
Without a wiring diagram,Not sure where the next logical step lies. Any chance this is going to involve some body module that no longer works? The window went down in icy conditions when the door was opened. It them refused to go back up. Normal for an FRS in Canada. In the past it was simple reset by holding the ds door switch in the down position. Not this time. No blinking lights on the switches. |

Here is the wiring diagram https://demos.starbase7.net/t3Portal/
Did you ever have the window TSB done? I had it done when I first got the car and have never tripped the window once no matter how frozen up. The key is the changed travel distance the upgraded switch give the window. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/attac...1&d=1389643313

No upgrade. London Toyota seemed more intent on denying that there was any kind of a problem when I brought it up in 2013. I dont think I have been back for at least 5 years since I do my own work when possible.
But, to close the loop on this thread... At random, and with no real logic involved, I had the DS window ( working perfectly) rolled up, and the PS non responsive window in the dipped position. Out of spite, I tried to roll both of them down at the same time ( pretending the PS was not dead. Well, the DS moved down and stopped dead at the dipped position. Now the DS window did not respond either; dead as a Dodo. So, I cycled the key ( cause all software like to be turned off and on) and the DS window was back. I did the reset dance with the DS window switch and voila, the PS returned from the dead. All is well. Last edited by NOHOME; 01-26-2020 at 12:20 PM. |

I wonder if this would get rid of the bad wind-whistle noise I have that was a result of my initial complaint? I think they tried to adjust the window so that it did not go up as far as it did from the factory?
I have tried a few TSBs back when I got the car, but for some reason they only applied to US vehicles. Overall, I can't say as I have had any net positive results from Toyota. I still deal with the windows and I still raise goldfish in the taillights. There is also a weird creak/click body mechanical sound that is not audible to Toyota staff. Down to the beater side of the car's life cycle, so not gonna worry too much. How much longer you gonna keep yours? |

2. When it indexes, does it go down 10, or 20 mm?

"Nope, never seen or heard of this" was the response. Ended up there about 3 times to have it dealt with and the last time they mentioned it was "adjusted" whatever that meant. Would have been nice if Toyota had taught me how to reset the windows, but thank god for this place. Anyways, other than a bad wind whistle, it has been good until the last few days and now that is sorted thanks to the grace of dumb luck, all is good again. Three more years to go! |

Very similar happened to me this week. Passenger window is stuck, fortunately it's fully closed. It is not blinking (the AUTO is dark for PS but lit for DS) and the usual reset routine did nothing. I guess I will keep noodling with it.
