A huge wtf...
So I was driving down Halsey headed towards winco to get some groceries. I'm sitting at a red light and about 7-10 cars come flying up. (Rsxs,g35s,is300s) a cop shortly stops behind everybody at the light. The light turns green and next thing I know. We all get lit up. Next thing I know... I have a ticket for 480 dollars for street racing and wreckless driving. I don't even know this group of people. I was the 3rd to get let go. After I explained I didn't know who the group was and wasn't apart of it. He didn't believe me and said I could fight it in court... How do I win this?

Holy crap! At least take it to court. The cop would have to prove your involvement. Go in and plead not guilty.

@Chen
In California you can contest this by mail, it's called a Trial By Declaration. After which, if you lose you can request a Trial De Novo (a totally new trial). If you lose that you can still ask the judge for traffic school to at least clear your driving record. In Oregon I have no clue, but there may be some kind of process like this. |

Wow - WTF. I imagine you don't have a dash cam? Did you just come form a store, or anywhere you can provide a receipt from that would show you were elsewhere when the cops started receiving these calls (I imagine someone called in, as I don't see how he can write you up for assuming anything he didn't witness, or have reason to pull you over for).
I'm not sure if any local businesses would have video footage that they could provide showing you pulling up to the light and waiting long before the group of cars that were clearly together pull up behind you. Best of luck fighting this Richard - I really don't see how they can charge you with anything as you have no affiliation whatsoever with the other drivers. |

Just there at the wrong place at the wrong time. Back in the 90's, wearing a red shirt would get you pulled over/questioned for gang affiliation. you couldn't even get in to bars/clubs with a red shirt on.
Guilty by association by just looking like one. I hope you can prove your innocence by explaining that the 86 is a much different driving experience than Honda RSX's and Civic's, and that Tada-san put his heart and soul into this platform. Don't put me in the same boat as the other ricers!

So a pretty cool thing happened this morning at about 9:15ish.... I get a knock on my door from an officer. Not knowing what it was about. He started asking me questions. Where I was last night, what I was doing, things like that. As I finished explaining. The officer asks me if I had gotten a ticket last night. I tell him I did. He then tells me the ticket is getting dropped. I ask him why? Basically to sum it up. The group of guys I was pulled over with vouched for me and said I wasn't apart of their group and didn't take part of what they were doing. I should be receiving some sort of letter in the mail to confirm the ticket has been dropped. There was probably more to this conversation but me not being a morning person, I had probably missed a lot.
TRDL- Ticket dropped. There's faith in humanity. |
