Can anyone explain this?

I had dropped my gf and her friend at a dinner theater and was cruising around in my FRS. I didn't know the town too well and nothing was open so I just drove aimlessly until I found myself in the parking lot of the local community college. Since it was dark, I just parked in a far corner and listened to the radio.
Teenagers and twenty somethings soon gathered across the parking lot in what must have been the local hang out. It looked mostly like their parents cars except for a black 2 door civic, a mix of sedans and mini vans. They would park in a row then someone would make a fast pass across the parking lot and around the college. I was parked well out of the way and only had another hour to wait as well this was close to the theater. My car is black so except for the occasional glance my way, I saw no reason to move.
Anyway, the gf messaged me for pick up. I started up and across the parking lot. As I stopped to exit onto the street, I hear every car there with horns blaring. Every one there must have been leaning on their horn. What a racket. I pulled out and slowly drove off wondering if there was some ritual I was missing. Were they expecting a dirty big, tire smoking slide? Did they think I was a cop? Don't know why I got the horn salute?

Aliens flew over and the EMP from their ship triggered all horns in vehicles for miles. You just couldn't hear yours since it is such a little beep.

How's the gf's sense of humor? Have you checked your rear plate for this?

You should be honored.

"Newfoundland - verb - to honk your car horn, “Barmp the horn” or to honk at someone or something. Cultural Note- Honking your car horn is actually a friendly gesture..."

So, wiki says ..

Don't think it was friendly honking? Considering I am 48, I booked it out of there. You know your old when the younger generation are incomprehensible. Surprised no one mentioned that I had two full grown adult women in the car. Got my back seat broken in, haha. Missing my car at the moment. She's 2 hours away in an airport parking lot. Might have the gf drive by to check up on her and toot the horn.

Dude you are overthinking this. They had no clue how old you were and honked when you left as a joke. It wasn’t a hate crime

Or maybe there was a murderer in you back seat and they were trying to warn you. I saw that on a documentary movie callled Urban Legends once.

Newfoundland is always last to get the new trends so I figured this might be one. No murderer in the back seat just a nice looking lady in a dress.
