Average Gas Mileage
Just wondering. What's the average gas mileage you guys get around the city in the bay area on your FRS/BRZ. I'm hitting ~20mpg or less driving normally (shift around 2.5-3k) and that's from home to school/work and vice versa.

Seems to be about 22-24 city driving, but haven't gone a full tank with just city driving (it usually becomes a mix of city/hwy) so it's hard to tell... 20 or less seems low though!

A little over 30 mpg, but most of the miles are on the freeway.

I'm getting 24 avg with almost exclusively city driving.
I'm not sure if this is true, but could gas mileage actually suffer by shifting too early? 2.5-3k seems awfully low to me, given how high these engines are designed to run. I just mean that there might be times especially in the later gears where it might seem like the engine is lagging when shifting at those lower RPMs. You could try listening to the sound of the revs/motor itself instead of going by the gauge, and just shifting in each gear based on feel/sound. Might have an impact if you're able to just go with the natural shift points of the engine instead of keeping shifts exclusively at 2.5-3k rpm. |

I'm getting a steady 24-25 mpg with about 80/20 city/hwy doing a very similar shift pattern as you (around 2.5-3.5k rpm).

Try checking your tire pressures, mine were each down just a few PSIs but I noticed a decent drop in mpg. When mine are at factory setting I average around 24.5mpg which is a lot of stop and go traffic and city driving

~28 mpg, 4500 miles in. I shift at similar points and try to keep the engine between 1,900 and 3,000 rpm, mostly commute miles in stop and go. It really shines on freeway trips averaging 30+ (depending on the terrain) with the cruise control on even at 80 mph. I could easily see high 30's with forgiving terrain and ~50 mph in 6th.
Stop and go on city streets with no cruising distance will tank your mileage no matter what you drive, that's why hybrids exist. Combustion engines are best at constant speeds with constant loads (see CVT) ALSO: Very important, the onboard average fuel economy gauge is optimistic at best, I've never had it be within 1 mpg of what I was actually getting. My last fill up it estimated that I was getting 33.0 mpg; actual: 30.99, ~6% error. |

I'm doing about 29.9 after 2 fuel ups, but I'm still in the break in period and primarily 30/70 city/freeway.

I get about 22mpg around city streets, and 32mpg highway cruising at 70-75. Usually equals out to about 27mpg mixed, each tank.
