Maybe you should go to a dealership and try to buy a 2024 corvette. You will not be able to buy one at anything close to MSRP.

Your out of touch boomer clown takes continue to amaze.
I was saying what I could do with $170,000. Not what YOU could do with it. And I've never paid more than MSRP in my life. Wait long enough and the dealer always will come around.

Precisely. My modest home in OKC has appreciated something ridiculous like 60% in the last few years, add in the low rate. The middle of the country doesn't typically see these spikes, there are reasons of course, but I don't want to make this political.

We are going to be in this house much longer than we anticipated.

But it's a very nice home, in a quiet neighborhood, so I can't really complain too much.

Summing up the strange tangent this thread has gone......

If we were to apply what is currenty being said to the question of the OP.....
Any good reason to stick with a 1st gen?
Yeah, cuz its cheaper and we wont be up to our eyeballs in debt getting one (even though a second gen isnt priced out of reach, there upwards of about 10g worth of cash in pocket with a first gen vs second gen)

Good summary.
And yes there is a good reason to keep what I have.

To be fair, if you spend within your means, you won't be "up to your eyeballs in debt" to buy a new car. My fiancé was laid off in January and was out of work for just over 5 months. What was the effect on us? We didn't go out to eat/drink as much. I still had the mortgage paid 4 months in advance.

Unfortunately, many Americans have become accustomed to spending past what they can actually afford.

And I use afford deliberately, there is massive difference between being able to buy something and being able to afford something.

Absolutely. My first home cost was double my annual income. This was 30 years ago and was a small starter home. IIRC at 7% interest that was about 30% of my gross income.

A starter home is around 450K. It's out of reach for most. The younger people are being left out. It's a completely different animal now.

We've been sold out to the banks. Banks cause crisis in 2008, should never have bailed them out. Bailouts should have been for the homeowners. Basically, *their* crisis resulted in massive turnover of homes and other properties from people, to banks. They have literally taken over. Oligarchy... We need to make bribery illegal, outlaw any corporate political spending.

I realize you are in Canada, but that is very localized (starting home price). Within 20 miles of my zip code in Georgia there are over 400 homes (single family homes) listed under $200,000. Some of them are fixer-uppers, but most are move in ready as starter homes.

Its a Canadian issue right now....the US is much cheaper for homes.
Up here you don't get anything in the 200,000 range unless its a condo. But the unit size you can get with that price is slowly getting smaller.

chicagoland is mostly $250k+ these days.

my one friend just got a place for $170k. it was an as-is sale. took about 3 years to find something under $200k that didn't have raccoons in the attic, and swamp in the basement...

What is the economic environment like there? I can go back home to northern appalachia and find a decent house for under 200k as well. You can't buy a job to save your life but the homes are cheap.

If you go east 20 miles that price would double. Add another 20 miles and you could triple it. North the same. West the same and south you're in the lake.

Housing prices are out of control. The only place that is really affordable is straight north several hours where there's no work. Of course, the locals can't afford the homes.

No good reason, second gen is better then first gen on all fronts. I switched from 13 FRS(125k miles) to 23 GR86, surprising how much the creature comfort of backup camera and push start matters lol or maybe i'm just getting old.

14% hp increase
22% tq incrase
weight relatively same
gas mileage slightly worse, but who buys these cars for the MPG lol
