AWD is super off topic, but FWIW, the LS AWD oil pan sets the diff/front driveshafts in the correct spot for axle into front hubs... but still need to get around the steering shaft and subframe clearance issues.

Trying to make it affordable and repeatable. I know its taking a while but unless you guys want to pay $1000 for an oil pan like the one on KMiata, I need a little more time to figure out how to do it for less but still be a decent product.

So you must be working on a cast piece then; a stamped piece would probably be more expensive and require large equipment. That should keep the price reasonable. For instance, I’ve seen cast bell housing adapters be reasonable in price compared to their CNC-machined, billet counterparts, which is surprising because they look OEM. Similarly, a custom welded oil pan that needs to be pressure/leak tested has to be more expensive than a cast piece that can get machined and decked quickly and consistently.

Casting is practical for large scale production. Fabrication is generally better for small run due to up front costs. I don't know how many of these they think they will sell or if there is some new cheap casting technology but I can't see casting being more practical.

Tough problem for the numbers. Maybe set up a core exchange for rework.

Custom bellhousing for BRZ to CD009. It is hard to know what the bellhousing would retail for by itself, but I can’t imagine these kits selling in high volumes.

Ok...thanks...for the info ...but those were suppose to be examples of bellhousings that were produced at relatively low volume with decent prices to support my theory that Pure Auto might be working on a cast oil pan.

I suppose they could be working on a machine welded oil pan versus a custom welding one too, but again, I was just posting links and examples of bellhousings that didn't break the bank. Maybe you missed that.

UPDATE!!

-After consideration of a lot of factors, we have decided to go with a modified steel stamped pan. The pan will be steel, designed to clear the 86 cross member using our K Series mount kit.

-The pan will come with an aluminum baffle that bolts in. The baffle is designed to shield the oil pickup from sloshing under hard braking and acceleration.

-The pan will require that you switch the oil pump to the RSX Type S oil pump. This is for a couple of reasons. 1-The stock K24 oil pump with balance shaft is a huge piece that makes fitting a pan around it while still clearing the cross member almost impossible. 2-The RSX oil pump allows up to 8500 RPM before it has any cavitation issues. There are hundreds of write ups and videos out there about changing the oil pump to the Type S, it requires the pump, a different lower chain, a couple bolts, and a windage tray.

We have the final design of the pan on our test car along with the baffle. Clears with no issues using our mounts! They will be ready to sell within 2 weeks we are hoping. I will have a Pre-Sale available on swapyour86.com soon.
