Again making the assumption that they "think" like us. They could have zero concept of what fighting or weapons are. This is exactly why movies portray aliens as almost human. People could not grasp that they could be so radically different in appearance and action. It is simply human egocentricity that dictates the belief that since we developed as we did everything else did as well.

they could be silicon based and breath sulfur, to visit this planet they would need a full on space suit to support their bodies.

The problem is not the whales in space per se, it's getting them there in the first place. If water is required, that is a shitpile of weight to lift in addition to the whales themselves. Even if they could obtain more water from comets, etc. they are still left with the problem of getting off the damn rock in the first place with an obscene amount of weight to be lifted into orbit. Worse if the planet is even larger than Earth.

On the oxygen thing, that is certainly possible. However, I don't think they'll be able to "eat" vacuum. Certain microscopic life could survive as a bacterial spore in an inanimate state while riding a comet, but any living thing that respirates (whether that is oxygen, ammonia, carbon dioxide or something else) would not be able to live in a vacuum.

We could build a space elevator for whales out of carbon nanotubes. Then, if they're thin enough, they could get water from the capillary action.

your making assumptions you cannot possibly make about lifeforms that can live in a vaccum and who's to say these space whales started in water, maybe they started in a asteroid belt and feed off sunlight. perhaps they can recharge in a nebula and can sustain for millions of years before having to find another nebula to recharge.

your basing your thoughts that all life is formed the way it was on this rock and I just don't think that's realistic. of course, like you I have no proof other than life finds a way.
