Breaking even still means more Supras will enter the US market, so the supply would be higher, so the price goes down because there is less scarcity.

Jdm examples seem to be less costly than a clean usdm version. I have been following the gtr market closely, and cross shopping with rx7s and supras. People don't seem to be bringing them in as much since we have usdm cars, and also the initial buy in price is steep for many when you need some decent upfront cash. Either that or finance a 25 yr old car, lol.

It's ironic that in most cases people stateside, especially in the more densely populated areas often have access to a greater variety of things that might be scarce in other areas. Little/no tax plus currency exchange always helps.
However, when it comes to JDM cars we have had a less restricted access here for sure. I have enjoyed eyeballing a plethora or cars and trucks brought in from Japan auctions for the most part including EVERY generation and iteration of GTR including the original from the late 60's/early 70's up to the R34. As they have approached importation age for the US the asking prices have skyrocketed. I have seen tons of other cars, many European, that were brought here from Japan. Saw a completely track prepped Z3M coupe on the website of the importer one day ("clown shoe") and never thought twice, but had I not already bought my summer car, that would have been a monster. If all the mechs checked out. I hear that from Japan typically everything does check out, but still due diligence.

Sure I get that, but that didn't really hold true for the NSX, it makes me wonder if the mkiv Supra will be the same way. Maybe you will be able to get them for 5-10k cheaper in a couple years, but they will still sell for +40k for a clean manual version in my opinion.

Personally I would never understand the desire to drive a RHD car (and vice versa elsewhere) unless it was never available here. I would rather convert an US car with JDM bits if possible. |

RHD Supras wont have much of an effect imo. they have been available in Canada for years now and prices have remained about the same.

and like funwheeldrive pointed out, JDM NSX has not made the USDM prices go down either. i think a big factor is because A LOT of the cars that are being brought over here are AUTOs. its also not helping that the sellers are sometimes even asking more for them than their USDM counterpart. there was an idiot over at NSXprime that was importing a few autos and was asking like $60k+. he claims that JDM NSX are superior to the USDM models |

Isn't the US Supra 320hp vs JDM Supra 280ps for the MkIV? But I wouldn't rock those stock chrome rims.

Scarcity of USDM Supras will keep their prices ever increasing despite imported JDM RHD versions. People shopping for these cars dont just want "a Supra" they want a specific kind. They are not fungible.
