As I stated above: IF the buyer KNOWS there is a tune that is FINE.
But if someone sold one and the buyer did not KNOW about the tune, then it is Fraud plain and simple. You have purchased an altered item when you expected stock. And if the dealer finds out you have been running a tune they can deny ALL engine and transmission warranty work for the future. For all of you that think that is fine... interesting world you live in. And I suppose you all think it is perfectly OK for the seller to NOT mention this OR provide the license info? |

Of course failure to disclose is bad but OP expressed nothing but delight for having discovered his tune. Then you came spreading Debbie Downer all over the place.

Now with the dealership still being able to run standard diagnostics, can they find out that its tuned? Again thanks for the input. |

If its going in for service and no engine related issues and it not a car flagged for a reflash then they are just going to kick the tyres and change the oil ect and plug in diagnostic analyser find no cel codes and its all sweet. if you have mods such as headers or intakes that are visible they will oftem blame these mods for engine problems regardless of weather they are the cause. if you have engine related issues return these to stock before dealer visit saves heaps of hassle. A tune is not obvious to dealer unless they are looking for something. dealers just do diagnostics and reflash ecu with a complete rom if their is a TSB issued for that vehicle vin or some other issue. their sofware afaik just reflashes they dont have ability to read and then inspect the current rom, they just get a readout of the calibration id of the rom, most tuned roms will just be same calid as was stock. If they attempt to reflash it will fail with ecutek racerom loaded, then two things might happen, They assume ecu is borked and replace it under warantee They look further especially if you have visible mods, if they call in the specialist guy or they have someone savvy that pulls the curise stalk and tweeks to map switching then your going to have problems On a stock car the differences are not that great so just driving it may not flag its tuned. If their is no issue with the car its unlikley they will find anthing or care it when you have faults the problems start Last edited by steve99; 12-31-2014 at 09:46 PM. |

BTW, Steve, I read with enthusiasm everything you post. I've had a Tactrix for months and am considering easing my way in from the deep end. Thanks for sharing and for your most thoughtful presentation. Bravo, sir.

Its not hard at all, just get your head arround what your doing, follow some simple precautions like any oher flashing tool and it will be fine , if you have any questions just ask. just use your tactrix to read rom from your car at first, look at the rom you read out. flashing is robust unless you do somethng crazy like turn off ignition mid flash. all the issues are people using incrrect definitins to edit or flash a rom |

To most dealers it just another car and another job , most times the 1st or second year apprentice is doing the scheduled maintenance and unless theirs an issue the experienced guys dont generally look at it.
