Miatas generally have more room than s2ks, and even more so with buckets.

I'm 6'1" and I fit better in my 1968 Datsun Roadster then my brothers MR2 Spyder (with 2ZZ).

The MR2 is really, really fun though. Just need more leg room.

I fit okay in a Miata. S2000 is close.

Myles and I in an Exige was hilarious but we both fit.

Is the ND a lot tighter or something? I just couldn't feel comfortable in that car at all. Had to sit bolt upright to get enough legroom, which put the windshield in my forehead. I have yet to sit in the driver's seat of an earlier one, but I've been a passenger in NAs and NBs.

Which generation Miata is this that you fit in?

My MR2 felt roomy in stock seats but I had the seat bottom pretty flat, which gave me a lot of clearance to the steering wheel. I felt like I could lean the seat back quite a lot and still slide it backwards far enough.

My bucket seats had no sliders, rear at the lowest hole in the bracket, front at the second highest hole, which allowed my legs to just clear the steering wheel, and it was very comfortable. My 6'2" friend felt like it was comfortable to drive as well.

I take it the Exige has quite a bit more legroom? I am rather fond of the Elise, but I'm not sure if the money would be better spent on a luxury GT, because anyone can strip out a cheap car to make it less comfortable LOL.

If you short guys (under 6'4") find wedging yourselves into a Miata or MR2 a fun exercise, somewhere I have a picture of me on a friend's CBR600RR. The phrase "monkey f%$king a football" doesn't do it justice. Some years ago I took my VFR800 on an 800 mile day trip. I was so cramped I couldn't stand up straight for a week.

No way I'd survive something like that in one of these micro-cars.

Wrong tool for the job.

I've done multi-day (3 to 5 day) trips of 600 miles or more on a standard bike with no issues. I couldn't ride a VFR800 for more than 20 minutes before I would want to get off of it.

Ok so I got the brilliant idea of asking the neighbor if I could sit in his NA Miata (all stock). As expected, my knees and the steering wheel did not get along. However, the seats went back further than the ND, and the windshield was further from my face! Headroom was definitely worse than the S2000.

He offered to sell it to me, but I'm hesitating because I would need to buy a bucket seat and my knees would still hit the wheel. The manual steering is so sweet though.

I’m 6’2”, 210 pounds. I own a BRZ, an S2000, and an MR2 Spyder. I have absolutely no trouble fitting in any of them and very comfortably. Do you guys ever just play around with the seat adjustments? I mean, I’m no Wilt Chamberlain but I ain’t no damn Tom Cruise either. I seriously fit just fine in all 3. What gives?

Hmm. Might want to have the compression checked in the S2000 you drove. Mine is stock and an absolute screamer. No comparison to the BRZ in acceleration. Acceleration is anything but underwhelming if you keep the revs up and work to that 9k redline every shift. It’s a blast.

Cabin space falls in between Miata and FRS/BRZ. I'm a bit over 6' and I still need a lower seat in the S2k, but I am very sure the Miata would still be uncomfortable with a low seat. There's no headroom and no space to push the seat back in the Miata, while the S2k had space behind me to spare. How the 6'2" guy down the street drives his stock Miata everyday to work is a mystery to me. Obviously, the BRZ has by far the most space in any way you can measure.

Acceleration is underwhelming in the S2k, and the better engine noises don't really make up for it (I am surprised I'm saying this given how much I value revs and engine noise). Still, better than the BRZ, which has no traction, no power (I tuned my car and tried running with 30% ethanol, so I know how it feels with ~215hp on tap), and sounds horrible. An ND with bolt-ons and tune ranks number 1 IMO.

Interior quality the S2k beats the Miata narrowly. Both are very pleasant cabins, assuming you fit in the Miata.

Steering feel on the S2k is numb, worst out of the three, but it's not really a dealbreaker for me.

Chassis on the S2k seems to be quite rigid based on the few bumps I drove over. The ND isn't as floppy as I expected but it does flex a bit. BRZ is pretty rock solid since it has a roof.

Overall, I liked the S2k especially considering it was bone stock, but it really wasn't as exciting as the internet said, and the prices these days are ludicrous. I don't think I'll be buying one anymore if the prices don't come down.

No, it felt like 240hp, it was pretty fast, just not fast enough for the price. The dealer salesperson was in the car slowing it down a little. The tuned BRZ with only me in it was a bit slower, but it also had around 7% less weight to pull. Likewise, I can tell the ND1 Miata pulls way harder until around 5k, and then it runs out of breath.

The last car I owned was a 2ZZ Spyder which was a bit faster (around 190bhp, and mine was sitting at around 2185lbs), and I drove to the dealer in a Cayman which is faster yet (advertised 275hp but they dyno at like 270 lol). For me, that's around the happy point.

Again if S2ks were cheap like a few years ago, I would have no complaints. It's the high price that makes me feel like they need a little more oomph.

What can I say. It was the tool I had. To a kid with a hammer everything looks like a nail. In my early 60s I wasn't exactly a kid, but … 400-450 mile days, even on a serial basis, were OK. That 800 miler, not so much.

Since you guys are on the subject of the S2000, I'm curious if mine needs to have its suspension bits replaced, or if what I'm experiencing is normal:

Mine is a 2003 AP1 with about 68k miles on it. Everything on it is bone-stock (the only thing I changed was the timing chain tensioner).
I notice that the suspension makes this "squeaking" noise when going over uneven pavement/bumps - it doesn't clunk (a noise I've had on cars in the past with worn-out suspension or mounts), and stays decently-planted (though I should get an alignment, as I haven't done one since I bought the car in 2017) - not sure if this is just normal noise for the car (convertible and all) or if its time for a suspension refresh?

I'd think bushing and mount inspection or replacements might be a good place to start, I'm no mechanic, but that's what I'd do.

at those miles, yes.

Also check all the bushings as mentioned above.
