I think depending on cost my next setup should be the lighter version of that.

Regardless of the past, these cars have a penchant for chewing up the TOB. Each platform has unique needs and stressors - for older BMWs, it's the expansion tank and cooling system. Why would anyone think a clutch driven fan or expansion tank is a wear item? You will, when the car overheats because your fan grenaded and took out the rad.

Or a more obvious example - why would headlight brackets be a wear item? Well ask anyone who has owned an NA Miata. When their headlight keeps going down randomly, they'll have torn that thing out and replaced the whole assembly.

I know my point likely falls on deaf ears, but understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the platform is part of the fun, no? Unless your platform is the RX8 and the weakness is the engine.
To me, you’re lumping poor engineering/ design failure with Wear Items.
Everything will fail eventually. But let the rust come first. 🇨🇦

Just buy the new bearing. It’ll last with the upgraded grease. Just make sure it has the white dot.

I have the new one and it’s about 2 years old and starting to die again. That Tilton rig is looking attractive.

Two years? How many miles a year are you driving? It had the white dot?

My "updated" OEM bearings were going out regularly too.

OS Giken bearing has been in for quite a while now...

There’s some discussion out there that it might be the stock clutch fork flexing that’s putting unintended loads on the TOB and causing them to die early. Has anyone run into issues with the updated TOB and a forged clutch fork used together?

Thanks for the input All.
Winters coming and I’ll likely put her into hibernation next weekend.
I’ll have months to research/source parts and tools for a Spring project.
Only ~65,000 kl. on the car but may just upgrade the fork, pivot and clutch while in there.
Has anyone used the transmission lift adapter available for a floor jack? About CA$80 at Princess Auto.

Does anyone have experience with the Sachs bearing? A friend of mine uses them and says they work great. They area apparently much heavier and better built than any of the OEM versions.

Money Shift Racing made a hydraulic TOB conversion at one point. Maybe you could contact them?

My understanding is it was discontinued due to a lot of failures.

I see. I assumed it had been discontinued due to a lack of buyers
