I was kind of hoping that there would be a swap kit eventually for the latest WRX motor to slide into the BRZ. So I was estimating the kit at ~$1k, motor ~$5k, install ~$2k ... I've never done a motor swap so these are just guesstimates.

I was thinking a $20k swap would be LS1 level. I'd love to swap an S2k F20C into the BRZ. Damn I miss that car

Pure Auto charges about $5k just for the custom wiring harness, Motec ecu and software/tune. Then there are engine mounts, transmission mounts, transmission adapter, custom exhaust, etc that also needs to be purchased. This is if you want AC, dash controls, ABS, traction control, power steering, etc all to work. If you want a stripped down race car then things can be done cheaper, but it still isn’t cheap.

The FA20DIT is not a direct swap, and I don’t believe the ecu will automatically work with the rest of the electronics just because it is Subaru. A custom wiring harness and some type of translator and stand alone ecu is probably needed, besides all the normal mounts, adapters and exhaust. Moreover, the turbo system would probably need to be customized because it is under the motor and probably wouldn’t fit.

I accept the fact that the engine will eventually give out, although stock. Where will be the best place for me to purchase a brand new engine besides the dealership? I heard that I can get a new IAG FA20 short block but those are intended for FI'd vehicles. Will it work if I'm not FI'd? Would I need a short block AND a long block or will the short block do just fine?

I have an IAG stage 1 and am NA. Using a block rated for over double the HP seemed like a no brainer when I had the motor go after the recall debacle it was about 1,500 more than a stock short block.
