Front bumper damage is this repairable?
I recently purchased a 2013 FRS and it has a few damages areas on the front bumper from the previous owner. There is a bit plastic that has a gash in it and a crack near the headlight. Would it be possible to sand, fill, level and repaint (color match spray can)? If so what products would be best to fill the damaged areas? Or would it be more cost effective to just find a new front bumper or a used one in good condition?
The bumper is general is in rough shape. Close to the bottom it seems like the clear is stripped so I was planning on refurbishing the entire thing if it’s possible. I don’t have the skill but I was looking into doing this as a DIY project but if it’s not worth the money and time I’ll buy a new or maybe aftermarket bumper Last edited by JaeMHC; 08-07-2020 at 12:00 PM. |

Welcome, JaeMHC and welcome to ye ol forum.
Yep, that's a nasty gash and crack - The "fix" depends upon how particular you are about your car. Bubba suggests backing and filling the hole with Bondo then paint over it with touch up paint. I suggest you replace the front bumper. - your call. |

for a tear like that, the recommended procedure is to hot staple it back together, and tehn use a flexible-type body filler. it's not easy, and it can get expensive very quickly.
you're much better off trying to locate a replacement bumper cover.

Clearly a new bumper is best,, but if that's not doable right now,, you can probably patch it up. I modified the fender garnish by cutting of the raised area and 'welded' it back in place with a soldering iron. Then regular body work and paint. I used NAPA branded Bondo and Summits Epoxy primer. Harbor Freight sells a plastic welder for less than $20.
I would think the hole would fix pretty easily,, that crack near the top might be more of an issue. Both should have reinforcing on the back side. There are a number of youtube videos available https://www.harborfreight.com/80-wat...kit-60662.html

Considering how rough the paint is, I'd just replace the bumper.
The entire bumper needs fresh paint, and the cost of trying to make those damages look pretty again you are already well into the cost of a new bumper cover. |

+1 to new bumper cover if you want it to look good. It will need to be painted too I think.
You could repair it using various methods above if you have a lot if time and not a lot of money. Either way, you are looking at needing to get it painted. |

heres the thing even if you fix the cracks and the hole in the cover the entire front bumper is hammered with stone chips, the cheapest repair for a job that wont look like complete garbage is buying a cover.

sounds like the perfect excuse to do a wide body kit that has a new bumper to mate/match the fenders.
