I dropped off my wifes 2002 Avalon yesterday at the dealer. While there I looked at a new supra and the 1st thing I thought
was that it looked like a Star Wars soldier. I thought well,it has all the desirable goodies under that body.
But it'd not to my taste.I like the look of my FRS 2.0 much better.

What type of problems? From what I read, the B48 is a B58 with two cylinders chopped off.

I dont think theres really anything wrong with the current B series motors, i know the previous N series engines had its share of problems though.

yeah i beileve the B series motors are modular so they're all basically designed the same with more or fewer cylinders as needed. Pretty sure all manufacturers are trying to go this route to save costs.

I do think the Supra would have been more competitively priced closer to $38-40k, but this is because of all the take aways.

I haven't researched that motor, but I don't know if Toyota had anything to do with the development of any of BMW's engines or if the motor is prone to problems.

I think the thing to remember is that there are many 2.0T engines out there in the $20k to $30k to $40k to $50k. Not all are the same in terms of power output, power delivery, quality, reliability and power potential. There are other things that go into the price of a vehicle. For the Supra, it is a luxury GT car. It may have a Toyota badge, but it has BMW/Lexus class body panels, materials, etc. Pricing will reflect such things.

The only thing about the B48 that I can think of is that there isn't as much headroom for power gains compared to the Supra. I'm sure hp/cylinder and fueling from the direct injectors are the limiting factors.

Well now that is a reliable source if ever I saw one. Also must have great insider info on the cost to build to be able to state what the price should be with such confidence.

RZ - 3.0L w all the options

Now I’m US, base model 3.0 have Japan’s SZ-R options. Due to that, US ver 2.0 gets short end of the stick plus they didn’t want to give buyer much debate in options for Supra other than base model 3.0 or Premium 3.0. If you get safety option 2.0 added, you can almost get base model 3.0. How sad is that? No e-dif, brembos nor e-suspension, only for pointless safety options for price of 3.0...
$47,430 was the price tag for the 2.0 w/ just safety & technology package

Ouch! That's close to CPO pricing on a 2020 3.0 Premium.
