The challenging part for this kit is filling the gaps and making them look good. I don't think I'm going to go 100% true to life since there are several steps/levels on the sill/rocker panel. No gaps would be good enough for me. lol.

Plus the sill is far too wide in the model. That will also cause the door to be a lot thicker than it is in real life.

That is when the "close enough" rule comes into play. If it looks believable then nobody will even notice.

https://www.spotlighthobbies.com/amt19chnostw.html

It is a promo only made in 1958 for the dealerships and so rare it is hard to believe I found one one for sale at a reasonable price.
This was an important car in my life so to find this is very exciting.

Stay tuned for a restoration!
OK so I found out on another forum that these dealer promo models are made of acetate not styrene plastic. The warpage is not from something sitting on it but from the plastic itself shrinking as the solvents evaporated over the years. That means that this body will never be straight enough for my project. The good news is that with some clean up and repairs it will be worth far more than I paid for it (and cool to have on it's own rights anyway) so it is not a total loss.

The guys on the model forum did point me in the direction of a resin body for a 58 sedan delivery that can be converted to a Nomad 4 door wagon with just a bit of work.

While shopping for that I also found what I thought would be an impossible body to get.
My 64 Econoline shortbox, hard side, van!

Since these were two of the four most important old cars in my life and were never made in mainstream kits I was so excited to find them that I was shaking!

Then I tried to order. NOT SHIPPED TO CANADA.

Luckily I had an agent in the US that could and did order them for me. So they will be traveling from Wisconsin to Vancouver Washington and then back across the continent to Canada. Ultra is my saviour!

I had already bought a kit for the right engine for the Nomad:

Already built the engine:

And ordered an Impala for the chassis, interior bits, etc:

Already pretty invested in this project!

Garage
Friend in HS had a Falcon panel van that we used for general carousing. Good times.
Ex-UPS painted in the poo-brindle colorway. Was a solid vehicle.

My '64 Econoline was an old hydro company vehicle. Relatively low miles considering it had been a work truck. The guy I bought it from crammed a 351 into the dog house between the seats. Would pick the front wheel off the ground for 50 feet. All done up inside with bed and bar.
Had it for a year or so when in the Army. A lot of guys would borrow it after meeting girls at parties but never drove any place.

Nice. You going to to replicate the full interior?

Haven't decided yet. These will be my first venture into resin bodies so a lot will depend on hoe easy or hard it is to cut up without damage. The Nomad windows should be fine since they are inset but not sure I could open the van doors and make it convincing. I don't want to ruin the van body lines.

You could try to find a resin body you don't care about to practice with?

2 of my friends have at least one each. They can print quite minute details. See my prior mini figure pics.

Speaking of minis, I've got a few more to paint coming up... (Pics eventually)

Pretty comfortable with what I need to do to the sedan delivery as a training exercise. Nice big areas with loads of leeway.
