Driving is an art. You get into things like auto blip, nannies, etc and you end up with a paint by numbers mentality. There's nothing wrong with paddles if you're just out for lap times and have mastered H pattern and heel toe. It's like starting out on the track with a low hp car. You end up being a better driver in the long run when you have to master the fundamentals of why cars do what they do.

I will say though when you get into supercar territory then paddles and nannies are necessary to just keep the car on the track for most mortals. I remember when Walter Rohrl was finished testing the first 911 GT2 he said "You don't plan on selling these to the general public now do you?"

Eloquently stated, TommyW. I think it would be a shame to see the demise of the manual 'box, but only because I like to drive them. Can't argue with them being quick around a track.

Maybe in the future, gearbox types will be factored in to racing classes the way all wheel drive and capacity is.

I saw Matt Farrah on Joe Rogan and he said something that made more sense than anything that I had previously heard, regarding dual clutch. He said that after a car has around 500 hp,then it becomes legit dangerous to take a hand off the wheel, and becomes pretty scary.

Heal and toe or auto blipping really comes into play when decelerating from high speed, and you are planning to select a gear (match engine speed to the lower gear) to drive through a bend. If you're slowing to a stop then no point going through the gears as the brakes are enough.

I've been daily driving a stick since I was 16 years old, I've always heel toe shifted
