Best tires to get for the 17x7 stock wheels - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I'm sick of the stock tires, especially in wet conditions. I know the highest width you can run are 225 on these wheels. I need grip. What tires should I get?

We ran 235/40/17 on the stock rim with out any problems. that size keep the diameter just smaller then stock. the tire we used was Toyo R1R and the grip was amazing. however we did not see any rain. i have ran BFG G-sports in the past and never had any problems with the rain. they held up on the track as well. Tire Rack offers some great information and testing results also.

Are you racing? If so I would go with Dunlop Z2s (can be noisy on highway but amazing steering feel/grip/etc), Hankook RS-3 (Not great in rain or cold temperatures), BFG Rivals (Not great in rain, best on concrete surfaces or warmer temps) or Toyo R1R (very fast treadwear).

If you are racing and want nice street manners I would go with RE-11A or the Yokohama AD08 R

If you are streeting Michelin Pilot Sports or Continental DW

Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Best street performance tire I have ever had. Worth every penny

Not tried with this car, but had Hankook Ventus V12 Evo as my summer tire on my last car and was quite pleased with it, also not terribly expensive.

what is the difference between concrete and asphalt in terms of grip? All I know is there is 1 section of road curved where can drive in 4th easily but in the rain it is scary in 3rd. On asphalt I don't feel as much difference between wet and dry traction, i think. This is street driving so it might not even have merit since all roads are in different states of repair...

yokahama ad08R stock size is WONDERFULLY GRIPPY !! Love my 86 even more now. Next small updates will be tighter / sportier bushings , lower lumbar support insert and that will be all for me.

I will 5th that recommendation. My only complaints are lower MPG and maybe too much grip? There is no more drifting at will at any street corner. The car is more safe but less fun. But in the rain the trade off is worth every penny i paid. IMHO the stock primacies are dangerous in the rain.

I run these in a 225 on 8" rims and awesome tire for these cars. Sexy tire too.

I ran MPSS on the FD for a while. Initially they were OK, after less than 2 years on the car they lost all grip. Weird experience that I haven't had with other higher-performance tires.

IMO, even at their best they're somewhat overrated. Personally I went back to the Extreme Performance category for street usage. Actually on the FD I went to Nitto NT01 DOT race tires for street/track...

On sizing, IMO 225/45 is a bit pinched on a 7" wheel, I'd go 215/45-17.

For street grip width is not as huge a deal anyway. And for street grip in the wet, narrower could be better.

Anyway, me, for street only usage on 7", I'd be looking at Hankook RS4 in 215/45-17. In Max Perf category I'd look at Conti ExtremeContact Sport and B'stone S04 before PSS. Actually I wouldn't even be considering PSS...
