Took the car to Barber Motorsports Park this weekend, first time on track since the repairs...Car is still quick, but is now having the intermittent loss of Electric Power Steering (EPS) problem I have heard others complain about. Good news is I almost matched my PB in the 2nd session. Had a predicted time in my 3rd session that would've crushed my PB....but the bad news. Completely lost all ABS in the T5 braking zone at 101mph, narrowly missed the Cayman I was chasing and slid off track through the gravel trap. Luckily didn't touch anything, but flat spotted the Hoosiers....so I was done for the weekend.
Off to figure out what is going on with the EPS and ABS..... Here is the fast lap:

Here's the full lap before the ABS failure, and the resulting off.
Note in T16 there is some lock-up accompianied by a flashing traction light, this was odd, and had never occurred before. I run a Gerald Trac-Box with traction control turned off. Car felt fine until T5. You can hear the lockup, then me pump the brake with immeadiate lockup again...

We had a similar thing happen with our BRZ track car after it sat for awhile while the trans was getting rebuilt. Didn't experience the EPS thing but ABS just stopped working out of the blue.
Ended up being the battery not delivering full voltage. Apparently these cars are very sensitive to it. Getting the car full voltage again solved the issue. Sounds like it might be a different issue than yours, but easy enough to check. |

So I was at Sebring 2 weeks ago, prepared to set a new PB and on day 1, 2nd session this happened...my Invidia Full Titanium exhaust's weld failed where it attaches to the front pipe. This ended my weekend...
This exhaust is less than a year old, and this was only the 4th event I have been to with the BRZ this year. I'd guess less than 50 miles on the part. I contacted the place where I purchased it, and Invidia and was happy that they agreed to replace the midpipe. I received the package about a week later and opened it to find an Invidia Full Titanium Midpipe...but one that is not for a BRZ/86. Contacted Invidia multiple times to let them know the wrong part has been shipped and they have now ghosted me. I was able to have the broken weld rewelded by a local shop that can weld titanium to get the car back together, but certainly do not recommend anyone spend the $1700 on this exhaust that is so fragile with no warranty support. Regardless of how little it weighs, I'm likely going to replace it with a SS peice that isn't so fragile.

Wait does that titanium catback not need a donut gasket + spring bolts?

Said it was compatible with a flat flange or a donut flange. I'm beginning to think that isn't true. Working with JDL Auto Design now to reconfigure my front pipe to a donut flange. Invidia finally got back to me saying there was no way they sent the wrong pipe...after many pictures and back & forth...they finally agreed to send me another, it is expected to arrive today...we'll see if it is the right one.

Question for you from alllll the way back to the first page... I stuffed my BRZ into a tire wall at the track this last weekend and bent this exact part. The part above the headlight and where the front of the fender attaches to specifically are pretty not-straight anymore. I remembered this thread somehow and thought you might be able to help. Do you remember if this whole fender support part bolts in? Or does it need to be welded in? My initial thought was it might all need to be cut out and replacements welded in, but looking at these photos, it looks like maybe the replacement piece is just a lot bigger than I was originally thinking. |
