Um...no, I just don't like FWD and I don't like hatches. And for the record, I don't own one of the cars you think I do. My car is AWD and it has a turbo. LOL

Nice buy mate. I never considered the Clio when I was looking for the car. I drove the Scirocco R, Golf R and Megane 250. All great cars, but at the end of the day I wanted RWD. If I didnt get my hands on an 86 I wouldve gone with a Megane. Its so out there in terms of styling, very eye catching.

What did u think of the Scirroco? That would have probably been stretching the budget for me but at the same time it's a very good looking car. Probably the only hatch FWD i've ever truly looked at and gone "niiiiiice"

Spec wise they are pretty close. I'd love Wheels or Motor mag to do a proper comparison between the two. Personally I prefer RWD and having driven a number of FWDs, AWDs and RWDs over the years I can definitely tell the difference between the drivetrains.

Congrats on the Clio. Enjoy
Pretty sure they did, I will dig it out.

In a nutshell, 86 was quicker in straight line

Clio spanked it around the track (spanked the WRX too haha)

Clio is harder to live with - harder suspension, ride etc.

Both 86 and Clio are playful and great fun to drive, 86 at a lower limit apparently...

That said, it's just journo opinions.

90% of people won't be able to get the best out of either car, or ANY car for that matter.

How did you find the ride mate?

I think the megane renault sport looks great in real life. Haven't heard of this RedBull rs200 before.

Either way congrats!

^ This. I've felt most on here have been interested and given you positive feedback about your purchase.
At least you bought another sporting car and will have a load of fun.

Could have been worse, you could have purchased a camry "sportivo" to get your sporting fix.

p.s. I know how well FF cars handle as I've watched all seasons of Inital D, EK9 on the downhill with a pro driver still got nothing on the mighty 86 jokes.
p.s.s. At least you are driving your car while I still wait patiently for mine.

The mood has changed since we spoke about the elephant in room.

I couldn't wait until Tuesday. On a train now to pick it up in Newcastle. I guess that shows I'm excited.

If everyone liked and drove the same type of cars, it would be boring world indeed. So I say: Vive la difference. Of course, if you post in a forum, you can expect all sorts of reactions. You are happy with your purchase and it's the only opinion that matters.

I was pulling 1.11 flat at wakey in a stock power dc5r and suspension/semis. It was awesome and I still miss it. Tuned right, FWD can be as much fun as any "pure" sports car can be. In the end it's what you want from the platform and your goals/mods (if any) for it. I only got an 86 coz I thought As a driver I've learnt all I could from fwd cars and now I want to develop my rwd abilities. People should stop hating on fwd! As for styling, that's purely a personal thing.

Ps I'm still a Honda fanboy.

Are you trying to be funny? I've read that joke on Planet F1 more than once. There have been plenty of limited edition Renault Sport cars over the years including the Clio Williams and R27 F1. They are all an homage to formula 1 championship winning teams. Don't think I've seen a Toyota F1 limited edition Corolla.

Back on topic, I took a train up to Newcastle to collect the car this afternoon. I got ther at 5pm and hit the road straight away. Just a trip down the F3 so far.

My first thoughts on the car are different to what I remembered of the R27 I drove a few years back. The suspension is the firmest I have driven on a factory delivered car. The dampers are really quick. Whenever the nose hits a bump it immediately bobs back up. I can't wait to drive it hard on a smooth track. Sadly, Phillip Island is a very long drive from Sydney.

The seats are fantastic. Comfortable enough for daily duties but very supportive. About the same as the Golf R/R32 option seats. I really struggled with the controls at first. I'll need to have a good read through the manual tonight. I should've read the book on a few points before leaving Newcastle but stopped at Wyong Caltex for McDonalds and paired up my phone.

I tried to figure out the RS monitor while driving, but again it's a very obscure system hidden behind a double button press. Once I found it I saw some pretty cool stuff. The car has a built in lap timer, engine telemetry system with throttle input, torque and power outputs. It even has a g-sensor. I've gotta assume there is some way of recording and downloading this info rather than just having a real time display. Why else would it be in there?

The car looks great in person. The wheel arches are so much wider than I imagined. The yellow really stands out and works well with the black metallic. I'm probably going to meet up with Felix for lunch on Tuesday so we'll take a few decent snaps of the car then.

I really can't wait to drive this car on a track. It feels way better than some highly modified track cars I've driven. Should be a barrel of fun.

Yeah very nice car, but the FWD really put me off. I would have got the Golf R over it just for the AWD...
