Chirp Chirp Chirp

Dammit, I was hoping that I would be spared, but nope. I have crickets
Heard it for the first time today with the windows down in a parking garage. I guess I won't be getting any warranty-voiding exhaust systems now.

What does your exhaust system have to do with your high pressure fuel pump...

Nothing to be confused about, it's another owner that doesn't know there is no "voided warranty". If a part negatively affected and caused something to fail, they can refuse warranty work on a specific failed problem. I.E. I threw on a big turbo and blew my motor, the motor damage isn't covered, but my bad wheel bearing still is.

It's a simple TSB, called Annapolis Subaru last week, 2 hour fix according to them.

My research has turned up that there is no fix other than simply replacing the pump and praying. Has there been a pump revision that addresses the underlying issue?

I don't want to give a dealership any ammo in case something does break. Something like "your header put more stress on the motor than intended and yadda yadda yadda..."

From what I've seen, running pure gas (0% ethanol fuel) makes the chirps go away, and some owners running regular E10 have said it went away with more mileage on the car. I'm still only at about 2k miles myself and still chirping loudly. No ethanol-free gas stations near me either.

My brother in Oklahoma City has a BRZ and a ethanol-free gas station nearby. He didn't even know what the chirps were until he came down to visit me.

You've got it all wrong. Nothing fixes the crickets better than making your car so loud you can't hear them.

This works! ...but the crickets never bother me. It's not nearly as annoying as the 6 cylinder BMW tick tick tick.

Just FYI, they fixed mine and I had my cat-back on. Granted a cat-back is nothing crazy.

I have them for several months now and I don't care since this is not a performance issue and the car is not on fire nor do I want the car on fire.

Anybody know of any cases of a failed HPFP? And what the residual damage would be?

I'm coming from a Golf TDI that also had HPFP issues. In those cars, when the pump goes, it grenades it self into millions of pieces and wipes out the whole fuel system. $8,000 repair bill.

None have failed to my knowledge. Only issues have been related improper installation by the dealer wrenchmonkeys.

^This. @Opie has compiled information on what should be a permanent fix (something about boxes with green dots), but the issue ultimately is one that I won't address until dealers are more familiar with the procedure.

Correct the chirping is the result of lack of sound blocking material (as a new model HPFP suggest) nothing is wrong with the car it just chirps
