Quick update: If you guys want the files, I've uploaded them to Thingiverse (along with a few wedding favors).
Link to Thingiverse I haven't installed them yet, but there wasn't any major issues fitting up the parts. Go after them with a file, then drill out the holes to the desired diameter.

Hahaha, no. The RepRap (replicating rapid prototyper) movement is a wonderful idea... but I chose to get a Flashforge Creator X.
It's more or less identical to the Makerbot Replicator 2, with dual extruders, heated build plate, and a few "fixes" from the community (plate attachment brackets, feeder tubes, etc). The new version (Creator Pro) has added plexiglass panels that help control temperature and prevent a cold breeze from causing your print to lift up, which happens more than you'd think. You can print using Makerware, which is pretty slick, and it works with any 1.75mm filament (besides NinjaFlex).

You wouldn't have a better 3D solid model file to work with would you. I currently use Solidworks and I can't pull dimensions off the model at all. Also I greatly appreciate your efforts. I'm trying to eliminate install time by eliminating some fabrication upfront by pre-wiring and creating brackets ahead of time.

Sorry for the poor response time. If @SubieNubie or anyone else needs CAD files in an editable PRT format, send me a PM.
For the holiday season, I helped print some presents for a local car club. If you know them... don't spoil the surprise. Link to design: Sturdy Ornament with Personalizable Signboard It would be simple enough to add an 86-boxer logo (which @labskaus and @boredom.is.me have) and make some maaaaad presents for the homies.

If you can, put something on the door behind the speaker to manage reflections back through the cone. The breakup on the RS180 isn't too fun and, while you're typically reasonably off-axis in a car, it will still shine through. Especially if you only use a 1st order (which probably will net to a 2nd order acoustic) ...
I'm getting ready to embark on a custom setup myself - I've done a ton of work with the Dayton drivers (not in a car setting, mind) but will be looking to keep weight down - otherwise I'd probably be using some of my Anarchy stash instead. I think it'll be a Satori in the door if it looks like it'll stay dry enough. I'm really interested to see what is possible with a 3d printer in the dash setting. |

great project skankenstein! I've been into cad for a while and use sw at work. When I was first introduced to 3d printing one of my first projects was speaker baffles with draft angle to them. I've built some out of starboard before for the accord and dc2. This technology makes it great because your hole pattern is more accurate than just hand drilling or drillling on the drill press. Also MDF isn't great for the doors and near the windows, it'll soak up moisture.

Phase 2 of the project happened, though. Dayton RS52 2" sealed midrange fits up to the back, and a Vifa XT25 fits into the top. I'm not 100% sure that it will stay below the windshield glass... but Prototype #1 is go. There's wire routing built into the tweeter pods, and set screw locations for fixing them. Here's the link on Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:663351
