I was hoping to pick up 57DR's, if my car ever shows up, but to get them in a spec that fits the GR they have to be 18x8.5 et37. They look pretty boring in that spec. They look a lot better in 18x9.5 et38, which looked like they fit quite well on the first gen cars in that spec.

Yea if we’re stuck with flat faced wheels I’d rather just put a 12mm spacer on the stock 18s and call it a day.

It’s not impossible to make a narrow wheel with decent concavity. It’s just that most manufacturers lump the 7”-8.5” wide wheels together in the same face profile to save costs. You’d compromise brake clearance too but it’s doable. Lots a lipped wheels from the 90s are quite narrow but they have a decent lip because they’re ~ET30. You could apply the same thing to concavity.

Well like I said elsewhere, maybe here, I got a set of TE37SLs in 18x9.5 +45. They are pretty concave but I'm definitely going to need to mess with the car to fit them. A lot of it comes down to the face design of these wheels for clearance as you said and also because you don't want wild offset like that with a tiny little wheel otherwise scrub radius gets massive as well.

For me personally, concave spokes and/or dish on a wheel is very overrated. There are many flatter designs that look great and by only running the width you need (in a practical and performance sense) you can save quite a lot of rotating mass.

Many modified cars have wheels protruding from the fenders significantly (and with skinny tires) just for the sake of having some ‘cool’ dish or concavity in the wheel. Totally not worth the compromises IMO. If that style of wheel is super important perhaps it’s time to widen your fenders or buy a different car. Squeezing wheels that don’t fit under stock fenders always looks so broken to me…

Well I for one am not a fan of wheels with a lot of poke or anything with camber past -3 degrees. At that point it's ridiculous. But I do enjoy the style of a "meatier" setup.

I'd imagine 9.5s with +45 will fit "ok" just might need a bunch of rear camber... or cut up your brand new car for the look.

Eh. My Volks on my 2013 were 17x7.5 ET30 and the scrub radius didn’t change enough to make it apparent in handling. Even braking in a turn it wasn’t really noticeable in the steering effort. Then again they were 17lbs and I was ruining 215s on them.

It’s the same thing as throwing on an 18mm spacer, and plenty of people run 25mm spacers on stock wheels with no ill effects.

I agree 100%.

It's not that I don't like flat faced wheels, I just don't like them on modern rwd coupes. On 90's civic hatches, flat face wheels look great. On my e36 M3 I thought 17x9 et30 looked nice, R33 GTR wheels.

I was hoping 18x9 or 9.5 et 35-40 would fit on the 2nd gens, most of the wheels I'm interested look good in that spec. Maybe it's doable, idk what camber folks have been trying, but -2 to -2.5 is probably what I'd be targeting, with the car lowered a bit as well.

I'm also planning on some white 57DR's

It'll fit, but likely need to run -2/-3 of camber since I'm planning on lowering about 2 inches, I'm planning on running 245 tires too for slight stretch but it'll help with clearance

Are you going to run 18x9.5?
I am planning to run my 17x9 +38 57DR with 245/40 Yokos off from my Gen1 after the break-in period.
Planning to do minimal drops and hopefully -2 will do the job to avoid trimming the fenders.

Japan will have a lot of new forged wheels size for the GR96/BRZ this year

For example, Advan will release a Racing GT Beyond version in 18 x 9J ET51. That means you can run wider tyres in the rear without having to cut up anything
