They actually told me to expect May next year, but at the time they don't even have the 23 listed yet so the order says 22. Now to circle back, it was indeed the sales person no longer worked there and someone else responded to me quickly when i reached out. which is .. somewhat comforting.

Thank you for all the time spent doing this Rustyoid. I've been waiting since ordering 6+ months with no allocation still and you helped me get an allocation today at MSRP.

Congratulations. Did your ordering dealer get the allocation through some trade with the allocated dealer? Because my sales manager is telling me that any order deposit would not be refunded if I were to go to another dealer to get a car that had been allocated there. The only terms under which a deposit would be refunded is if the car isn't delivered by the date stated in the sales contract.

I just called Valley Toyota and bought their allocation. I was told my previous deposit was refundable, following up now.

Good luck with that, let us know what happens.

Regulations on deposits might be different in our two provinces which would explain the discrepancy.

There is no sales contract if there is no VIN, only a worksheet. I've never had any sales manager say a deposit is non refundable especially in the last 2 years where supplies are so low.

Had 0 issue getting a deposit back on a Tacoma Pro from a dealer when another one got an allocation before them and I was able to get that one instead, earlier this year.

It's possible that my sales manager was just making things up, but IIRC Tcoat mentioned he'd been told that his dealership had the same refund policy, and there is nothing in the Ontario provincial regulations governing refunds on new car purchase deposits that goes against it. I plan to check with a few other local dealers.

I had a written agreement that said the deposit was refundable if they did not have a firm order with a VIN within 3 months. Once they had a VIN or the car was in transit the deposit became nonrefundable. As it turned out they found one the next day but at least I was covered if still no VIN and I decided to back out after 90 days. This was NOT a sales contract but a signed off worksheet that I have little doubt would have stood up in small claims should either of us reneged.

My dealer will not order any 86 without an agreement and a non refundable (as per the conditions above) deposit. The owner despises the 86 and has since the early FRS days. He said he was stuck with a couple back in 2017 that had been ordered and then when they showed up the buyers backed out. They just did not sell well around here and he claims they lost money on ever one he sold after Scion died and the pure pricing went away. After 2018 they didn't even stock them at all and passed their allotments on to other dealers. I tend to believe him since they are rare in town and even my 14 FRS sat in the showroom for over 6 months before I stumbled across it. It wasn't that they were overpriced then since they practically gave it to me with the free extras I got.

On the other hand the smaller dealership in Stratford loved the things and grabbed every single one they could, never charged a deposit and they sold like hotcakes!

The moral of this story is that not all dealers are the same.
