Do not buy this one. I had it on my car and it failed. It worked great the first 100mi or so but it started to get crunchy and also started squealing. The idea is great, and I really wished that it worked but in the end go with OEM. |

At how many miles are people having TOB issues?

The Sachs unit is most definitely not similar to OEM.

I'd say that's a good life for a tob. Replaced it with another exedy. 10k miles in no issues.

Best replacement TOB
Quote:
Sorry for the slow reply. I’d have to check to be sure but I’d say about 28k miles. I still haven’t replaced it but it’s making all kinds of noise now. I’ve been too lazy to deal with it. But yes it was the new part number with the white dot. |

In the FRS my first one lasted about 40,000 miles. The second about 100,000.
If going OEM just make sure you get the most recent part number. There are at least 4 different versions of OEM floating around out there. Even the white dot one has been replaced with one with no dot. It is a crap shoot really.

The 2nd TOB on my FRS is about to go out. This one has around 55k miles on it now. As I remember the original one had a little more than that. Has there been any consensus on exactly which part number lasts the longest? Doing this every 50k miles or so is ridiculous.

If you are changing your throw out bearing I would also recommend to change the transmission input shaft housing. I've seen it where the bearing is new but because of the heat the plastic part in the center of the bearing can catch on the outer cylinder of the housing even when greased up. I believe part is about $100 through the dealer.

My case was a "new" bearing, I'm not sure if it was updated or not with the forged clutch fork. and the solution was changing the transmission input housing.
