Also...we will very likely bang out some comparative lap times at Carolina Motorsports Park between my lightly modded Miata and the stock BRZ as soon as we get it. I'll run my wheels with Star Spec street tires to keep things more evenly balanced.
The only mods to my miata in track trim are below. Most of them are just safety, durability, and weight reduction mods: FCM non-adjustable coilovers Bigger front anti-sway bar with adjustable end links CL Brakes RC6 pads 6UL wheels with 205/50/15 Star Specs Hard Dog rollbar Race bucket Steering wheel Super B Li-ion lightweight battery No passenger seat Hard top with soft top frame removed Koyo radiator Engine is completely stock, with all 116 raging flywheel hp intact...probably less now since the car is 20 years old..lol. I double checked my notes, and my miata weighs about 2195 with a half tank of gas. I changed a couple of small things since it was scaled, but it's pretty close to that. So the cars should be roughly 500-500 lbs. apart in weight if we pull the spare out of the BRZ. Power to weight approximation: Miata= 18.9 lbs./hp BRZ= 13.6 lbs./hp It should be interesting, and I will definitely share. |

those star specs are like a gazilion times grippier than the BRZ/FRS oem tires, they tend to take 2nd place behind RS3s, which many argue to be an R comp in disguise.
To make this a fair test you really should use a consumer grade tires on the miata.

Star specs are real tires! Just really good tires! A real comparison for most enthusiasts will be both cars on Star Specs.
