Angry DIY Painting rear lights Red - more OEM than factory

Like many of you I wasn't a fan of the FRS tail lights. So I tried painting the chrome part red to give it a more factory look than how this car came from the factory. This can be done in an afternoon if you have everything ready to go. If anyone is interested I can post a link to a DIY video

Painting the chrome red has the same kind of look as the painting the lens red, without obscuring the reflectors, LED brake light and turn signal

can't say I'm really a fan... I think black would have looked better but it looks like you did a good job. how did you seal it back up?

Oh my, that looks really cheap and not oem at all... IMO red out lenses with the signal cutout looks 10x better and more factory

I think this thread would be more about how to open the light; what line did you use on the plastic, what tools did you use, what technique, things to watch out for, what paint did you use, certain things like that.

Its his car, he can do what he wants, no need to bash the guy for his choices. To each his own on this one.

Interesting execution and twist on the 'not red enough' problem.

I think going a shade or two darker on the red would of looked way better. Nice execution though and kudos for trying something not gaudy.

I actually like round LEDs on our stock tails but hate the chrome, nice work.

I used an exterior grade black latex sealant, which will permanently remain flexible. I couldn't find a black silicone and didn't want to use anything too messy or hard to remove. Looks like it can be easily removed too if I want to change the colour (It easily pulls off the plastic smoothing stick I used, after it dried)

Black looks okay if you want that high contrast look. I was going to use clear red over the chrome; would like to see how that looks. I decided on the more subtle look with solid red because it also looks like Lego
