ECUTek and Bluetooth Tunning

A few weeks ago ECUTek released the ability for shops to remotely tune vehicles using users's phones and a Bluetooth adapter. I assume the process would be just about the same; purchase the license, Bluetooth kit, data log back and forth and ta-da, car is tuned.

First question I have is, how does this affect tuning using the previous way?
How different it is to tune using your cellphone?
Is it just a reliable and do you save money by buying the Bluetooth kit?
What things would I need to purchase in order to tune my vehicle with say, CSG?

1. It makes it easier, as everything is within the app.

2. Different execution of the same process as before, and streamlined

3. Just as reliable, and pricing is similar (same?).

4. Ecutek bluetooth connect, license, and a tune.

Being able to datalog from a mobile device is worth the convenience alone.

I may be misunderstanding something here, but as far as I know, you have been able to data log with a mobile device for a long time now. I have been doing it since I got my Ecutek kit a couple years ago.

I meant vs the non Bluetooth. And by mobile device, I meant a cellphone or tablet

Right. I have been logging data on my cellphone with Ecutek for a while, I thought you could always do that. Isn't the benefit with the Bluetooth setup simply that you don't need a laptop to actually tune the car now? You can now tune your vehicle via your phone for example, at least that's what I figured this change is.

I don't want to railroad OP's thread, but how have you been datalogging from Ecutek with your phone? Genuinely curious.

https://www.ecutek.com/ecu-connect

This has always been a thing with Ecutek since I have known about it with this platform, so at least for the past few years. But the difference is, you weren't able to tune with your mobile device before. The way I understand it, they are making that possible with the new change, basically allowing you to do everything on your mobile device now.

Ecutek has had the bluetooth obd dongle out for a while and you datalog with their phone app. The ability to flash tunes is a new addition.

Ok ok I was misunderstanding. I was talking about the Bluetooth adapter this entire time. I thought OP was asking about the bluetooth dongle in general. Nevermind

Thanks everyone for your feedback. But yes, I was curious on actually how the whole thing worked. I never knew that you could datalog before, I though it was more a plug your OBD Bluetooth connector and see feedback from the car in real time.

I'm mostly clueless on how a remote tune works. I haven't even tried to mess with my OFT with WayneRoms. Possibly missing on more power gains than what I currently have, or a proper tune.

After filling some fields, The ECUTek kit, license, and tune from CSG comes to about $945. Compared to the $500 that OFT costs. But then again, this is custom tune with very reputable staff. I believe that once I buy the license, I don't have to purchase it ever again, if I keep the same car, that is.

You can do this also. In the app, you can setup what parameters you want to see on your app dashboard(with the Ecutek dongle of course).

You can now send the log and flash via the mobile device.

With the bluetooth ECUTek OBD II dongle, I pull up a dashboard of ECU parameters on my phone, that I selected, every time I get into my BRZ. You can have pretty much any ECU parameters on display, and the lag between my action (pushing gas etc) and the dashboard updating is very short. It’s also got some neat things like launch control and other stuff, and I’m always ready to start a data log on a moments notice (log start button is on the dashboard), though I can’t say I log much. I haven’t had a chance to use the ECU flash option within the app itself, but if I ever get a Flex fuel kit (or other engine mods) I’ll have CSG update my tune through the app (at some cost to me, obviously).

The only thing I wish the ECUTek app had is the capability to integrate with iOS shortcuts, so that it could automagically pull up my dashboard when I get into the car. Yes I did ask ECUTek about supporting shortcuts, and the indication I got from them is they would like to support, but the dev has more important things to work on in the app. I love the app and OBD dongle by the way, it works great.
