More like: Check back when there's a facelift model with a new engine.

No one knows if there is a proper fix yet. If you check back in a month like the other person said, we probably will know. But the answer is starting to look like "no". So far, there are 3 people with the newest pump who got the noise come back.

Just had my pump changed couple days ago and it started back today. =(

Im curious at what point does the lemon law come into play, I believe it states that a reasonable amount of attempts must be had to fix the problem but "reasonable" can be stretched.

You may want to put your flameproof suit on, just fair warning.

I don't think you can lemon over an inconvenience instead of a true problem. The pump works and does it job, it just makes an annoying sound.

Lawsuit is probably the only way to go.

Here is what the revised / green dot pump box looks like (see attachment).
The one on the left (#130306) was installed on my car;
14 days, 830 miles, 93 Octane E10, Temperature in the 80's/90's, no chirp.
The one on the right (#130225) on a co-workers car:
7 days, 321 miles, 93 Octane E10, Temperature in the 80's/90's, no chirp.

If you are going to have this repair done, I would ask the dealer to see the box to confirm it has a green dot, and get the production # from the P/N label. This will accomplish 2 things, first you will be sure you got the latest part, second if there is an issue with the latest revision we might be able to narrow it down by the production #. I'm thinking that some dealers have the old style pump in stock and those are getting installed on some cars...of course those still have the chirping issue.

My original pump (built with the car) had a little bit of chirp, the 2nd revised pump had tons of chirp, you could here it in the car. This 3rd pump with the green dot has been quiet and hopefully stays that way.

From what I've been told, the FR-s pumps have a different P/N but have the same green-dot. Don't know if they have the manufacturing number but I'd be willing to bet they do. Anybody able to get a pic and find out?

Even if it's for silly reasons going in for repeated repair of the same issue opens you up to Lemon Lawing it.

Quote:
(2) The same problem has been subject to repair four or more times by the manufacturer or its agents and the buyer has at least once directly notified the manufacturer of the need for the repair of the problem as provided in the warranty or owner's manual or (3) The vehicle is out of service because of the repair of any number of problems by the manufacturer or its agents for a cumulative total of more than 30 days since delivery of the vehicle.
From the first website I clicked on when I searched for "California Lemon Law"
http://oag.ca.gov/consumers/general/lemon

I agree it's not worth it, it's only a noise, but that IS an avenue for some who cannot take the chirp. Hell by the letter of the law there are many people here who could lemon this car over leaky taillights and rattles.

I honestly think Toyota and Subaru will do something about it. I think the 2014 pump from the FR-S/BRZ may be the winner in this situation. I'll wait and see Opie's outcome as well. I really do not want to play how many times can I go to the dealer and have my fuel pump replaced. I already hate it when they touch my car.

Here's a video of my LOUD CHIRPS that I took today. It was more audible in person compared to in the video, but whatever. You can hear it. I can hear it. My neighbors can hear it. Super annoying.

Darn, the green dot pump.
This is how loud my original pump used to be.
My friend who lives on the 5th floor could hear me waiting for him at the ground floor.
So far, mine is on the 16th day with almost 600 miles and no sign of chirp.

I'm going to be setting up another meeting with my local dealership. Not sure exactly when, since I'll be pretty busy getting married and all...
