The new z4 has already been confirmed to have a manual as an option. I cant imagine it would be terribly difficult for Toyota to offer one in the future if they wanted.

They have been saying since 2013 that the 86 would not have forced induction. Anyone who was holding their breath for a high powered twin was delusional from the start.

The engineer who is designing the Supra (and designed the Twins) said there will be a 4 cylinder version. That is in the article as well. Do you not believe the guy that designed the Twins?

He does not run Toyota. He can say all he wants.

No he doesn't run Toyota, he just designed the car from the ground up. I think he knows what he is talking about

If this is true, the 86 is dead.

When did I say he doesn't? He designs cars, he does not decide if they get put into production. Is that that hard to understand?

LOL, all this because of "GT86" on a graphic.

So even with him saying that there is a 4 cylinder version and a document from Toyota stating that also, you still don't think a 4 cylinder Supra is an option?

If you think this logic is wrong, please tell all of us your analysis....
The article says this is a recently discovered document from a Transmission manufacturer (unconfirmed), not from BMW or Toyota. So assuming it's legit, it doesn't insinuate that the 86 platform will be replaced. The only thing we can guess, if you want to play the rumor mill here, is that the Transmission manufacturer will/want to provide Toyota with a transmission that works for both Supra and 86 4 cylinders.
Again, all guesses from an unconfirmed article.

Well yeah, but the Celica Supra = the first Supra, and they eventually dropped the first name and made it its own model, just like how the Honda Accord Crosstour eventually just became the Honda Crosstour, the Nissan Pathfinder Armada eventually became just the Nissan Armada, and kinda-sorta like how the Nissan Stanza became the Stanza-Altima, and then just Altima. Started out as a derivative of an existing model, then got stood up as its own model. (Just grabbed you in a quote for context, Summerwolf).

The way I see it, R&T are just adding to possible misinformation that's out there because the different media outlets just have to be the first ones to put info out there, doesn't matter if it's actually correct or not.

The "GT86" code in that table could even be a typo or bad copy-paste that got missed, or they could just be using the code to do exactly this and get people talking about the car more. I really doubt that the supposed 2-seater Supra is going to eliminate the 86, however questionable the rear seats in the 86 may be. You at least have those seats to drop to get more cargo space that you wouldn't otherwise have in the Supra. Wouldn't be the first time Toyota has had more than one sports car in its lineup, just the first time in a very, very long time.

I'm fine with just waiting until Toyota finally decides to stop beating around the bush and drops the legitimate info about the car. Trims, engine options, actual prices, etc. The years of speculation and rumor have just made me not care about the car until it officially exists, just like the decade it took for the new NSX to show up after multiple rumors and flicks of the On-Off switch for the project ever making it to production. By the time it did finally arrive, I couldn't care less. The Supra has gone the same way for me.

Plot twist, turns out the Supra is just a GT86 with a body kit and the 4cyl is just the FA20 with OEM turbo. XD

Does anyone know how road & track found the ZF document? They say that this document is internal. If that's the case, not the best way for Toyota to publicize their future plans.

Fake news. They're going to rename the 86 to "Celica".

It was acquired by the guy who wrote the article, no mention as to how he got it.
