This. I've never owned a vehicle with a lightweight flywheel before, but I can tell you it is VERY loud. At one point I thought something was wrong with my engine until I pushed the clutch in and the sound went away.

Not sure if anyone has touched on this, I used to hear a bit of a rattle at times until I installed kartboy transmission bushing, rear shift bushing and mtec springs. Of the three I would assume the transmission bushing may of helped with this.

I just replaced my clutch/flywheel/TOB due to a TOB failure and now I’m experiencing the same rattling under very low RPM on throttle conditions. I suspect it’s either the clutch springs or TOB that are somehow different in design or tolerances.
Prior to this maintenance my car would lug normally without any rattling just the normal engine lugging sound you’d expect from a manual. (2013 BRZ 72000mi, exedy OEM clutch kit & flywheel) |

So what I've learned from this thread, 6th gear is useless unless if you're on the highway

You can use sixth gear around town.
Just use it for cruise purposes when you aren't putting a load on the engine. At any point if you need to pick up speed, grab a lower gear. |

Yes I have this as well, replaced original clutch with exedy OEM clutch kit and 2017+ OEM TOB. Before I would hear the lugging, now I hear the lugging in addition to a very unique rattling (To me sounds more like a constant grind / growl) for a split second. However clutch is fine and doesn't slip or anything. Just another noise to add to the list... |

i could be wrong but i believe 6th is basically an overdrive in our cars (as in many other cars) that is there for highway efficiency only. i don't use it on surface streets and it is pointless to accelerate in 6th even on the freeway, unless you like using only a portion of the car's available power. Sidenote: people cruising at 3k rpm/70mph in 6th gear then trying to accelerate without downshifting are hitting the torque dip AND using an overdrive gear hence reviewers and people who test drive a car come back bUT tHe 86 iZ sO sLoWw!!1!

I usually just shift around 2200-2500 so it rebounds me back somewhere near 1900 when im just putting around with it. Although, I'd usually put the car into upper gears sooner which I supposed "lugged" the engine and I didn't realize it was bad for it. Welp, lesson learned Car feels fast enough for me though. I love it.

You are wearing your engine out driving at high RPMs. I thought that was established a wile back. You need to keep them below 2000 at all times so it lasts.
