i agree - that's why my paddle shifters are more exciting for me than a stick now. they're 'novel' to me.

sex
sex isn't really involving unless you do it all by yourself. nothing like using your own hand and stroking it, taking yourself to climax. if you do it with someone else, just lol at you. wait, what? |

The appropriate analogy would be condom vs condomless...
One is safer, artificial, lacking in feel. It has been jazzed up numerous times throughout the years with ribs and various oils. But At the end of the day, it still doesn't feel as good as its simplistic, bare bone (c wut I did ther), counterpart. All things being equal, would you guys have purchased the car if it was fwd? Modern FWD can go faster than many RWD, can rotate, offer heaps of fun; more practical in inclement weather, etc. But RWD, something most all of us rave about, is more involving and "proper." It feels better to slip the booty out on a RWD car. Natural, even if slower. This is why a good deal of us feel the ubiquitous automatic is ruining the engagement that is manual operation, even if it is faster and more pracitcal. |

If full manual is so good why doesn't Ferrari put any in their cars?

One reason arguments like there go nowhere is we don't define terms. MT better than AT? In what context? To me, it's about engaging with the vehicle, participating in the driving as much as is practicable. I ride motorcycles, too. So when I say an MT is better, it's because when I operate it I'm participating in the driving experience more than I would be if it were an AT. When I drove the car for the first time, I knew it was it. I just felt very engaged, and the MT was an integral part of that. This car is so visceral, partly because it's spartan, noisy and, at least mine with coilovers, harsh. I don't want it any other way, and an auto would take away from that, as would more soundproofing, and a softer suspension. But you could easily make arguments for those “improvements.” As long as you define the goal. When I finally get that NSX or Supra Mark IV, it will have a stick. I seriously cannot fathom why, other than for a disability, a person would buy one of them with an auto trans. For cars like these, why take away from the experience? The original NSX with MT didn't have power steering. That sounds sweet. I have an LS 430, by almost any yardstick a great car. Yet I feel almost no sense of engagement with the car when I drive it. If I don't have to drive it- picking up people from the airport, etc., I drive the Scion. The point is, of course it's personal preference, as are all of our decisions to get an FR-S in the first place. But from what I understand, one of the main concepts in the design of the car is the experience of driving- the lack of controls on the steering wheel is a function of that concept. To me, and I suspect, quite a few others, a manual trans is more consistent with that concept. |

my car is manual and I don't think that automatic takes the driving experience out. the only reason I have a manual is because I've never had a manual car so I want to have one. it is very fun, but I'm sure the auto is very fun as well, why wouldn't it be? Ferrari doesn't have their cars in manual because auto is much much faster. |

The Porsche 918, about $850,000, has a non-tilting steering wheel and non-adjustable seat backs. I think we would both agree that tilting steering wheels and adjustable seat backs are very good to have. Different strokes, I guess.

You say that as if Ferrari makes hands down the best cars in the world.I ain't knocking Ferrari, but by that rationale,if automatics are so good, why are all STI,Focus ST,Fiesta ST,Vipers,S2000,Civic Si, and Camaro Z/28s ONLY come in a manual?
See,I can play that game too. |

2 reasons actually. First, marketing. They get faster lap times with auto. Second, rich kids or someone who doesn't care about driving can buy the Ferrari, drive it and claim there car can do the nurburgring in a certain time. People like Kane west doesn't care abut driving or the history of Ferrari. They just buy those cars as items to show they are rich. Lambo, Ferrari etch... have caught on and that's where the business is. There model is now to sell more cars. Not make them for enthusiasts. Soon we will have cars that drive themselves because they will be quicker around tracks. People let technology take over there life way too much. I swear, by 2030 people will be saying how having the computer drive the car at the track is better than actually driving it yourself hahaha
