Ball Joint Replacement, The fun way.
Afternoon guys!
After getting new A-Arms for the front of my 2013 FR-S, I wanted to put in new Ball joints with the Whiteline kit but i don't have the tools or space needed for a professional job, however things can still be accomplished without! And here's how: Tools: 19mm Hammer 3lbs-ish, non deadblow Vice or other hard surface to stabilize and absorb hit. pipe - 1.5" x 5" roughly After removing the lower control arms, place one you want to use on the vice or other surface so that when you strike the ball joint directly downward with medium force so the peg is not deflected. This should loosen the A-Arms death grip on the joint and should take a few more taps to release. As you can see, my old Ball joint was badly damaged. Subaru made soft ball joints factory. After that using the old ball joint inside the tube backwards (make sure the peg of the old joint does NOT hit) tap it in so its a secure hold. Now insert the new ball joint into the A-arm and snug it to the metal so none of the rubber in pinched. Using the tool you just created, and with one good, solid, straight hit, smack it into place. The ball joint should seat to the rim with a couple small hits. And with little effort, a new ball joint is installed! |
