I had a manual FR-S, and it was great. But both my FR-S's now are automatic. I really enjoy using the paddles, and I enjoy the extra sport button. Very flexible transmission.

In hindsight, dealing with throw-out bearing issues and clutch forks failing... AT might not have been a terrible idea.
As someone who finds it more rewarding to nail downshift-rev-matching on sportsbikes than on the BRZ, I feel like I could have lived just fine with an Auto, while getting all the kicks out of the R6. |

I am not a track driver but I will always drive manuals because I love to be engaged in the drive. I don't heel and toe but try to rev match the rpms on down shifts. If I am at the track I am there to have fun and not for the best lap times.

One item you left out (at least for the '13). Auto will do 60MPH in second gear, MT requires 3rd. If they had bothered to give the AT launch capabilities it might actually be faster than the MT in 0-60, or at least much closer.

Manual for people who can drive, automatics for people who cannot, oh, and tow cars, and millennials, and people with only 1 leg.
Ummmm, I truly cannot think of any other reason to drive a auto.....

^^^^Everthing is. Different people prioritize different things and best compromise for each is different and certainly no people with different wishes/likes should be illspoken or shunned just because they are, well, different. Reading like "for people who cannot drive" and alike is what i'm talking about.

Agree, I'm just thinking back to the time when Subaru released their UK press car to journalists. Car enthusiasts waited with bated breath.... and the car gets 3stars!! All because it was an auto!! The rating improved but the damage had been done!! I hope someone in the Subaru marketing/press department got a manual stick to sit on!!! |

People take things way to seriously, especially people who drive autos, and of course, millennials.
