Header nuts coming loose

Every 2 years or so I need to tighten my header nuts because I start hearing an exhaust leak. I want to add lock nut washers so I won't have to worry about it anymore, what size are the studs?

Thinking of adding only lock washers, I will go with M8 size?

Try some high temp copper anti-seize. It will reduce the thread friction which will increase the clamping force, at the same torque spec. If there is too much friction on the bolt threads, you will not reach the proper clamping force, and without the proper clamping force, you don't have the right amount of bolt stretch. Bolt stretch IS what prevents fasteners from loosening.

Or, get Nord-Locks. This is what the rally guys use, and if you don't use them, you're tightening everything between stages. The vibration is THAT bad under those conditions.

Thanks! I learned something. Was not familiar with Nord-Locks. Here is a really good explanation/demonstration video.

The nord lock, lock nuts(that's a mouthful) are a lot better. I buy them in bulk for work, just not in metric sizes.

Or just get top locks. They are a distorted lock nut. This is what I run and mine have never come loose. They are a lot easier to find. I run these at all exhaust connections and on my sway bar endlinks.

Online for nord locks. Spring lock washers don’t hold well for long.

No. You want 10mm for the header. Just checked a bolt with a header nut.

Does an 8mm bolt need 2 mm of extra space?

The studs on the head are 10mm, not 8mm. Other exhaust hardware, idk.

You're referring to the studs on the bottom of the block for the header, correct? Not head studs. Thanks buddy
