Is anyone here running the Avo kit with a built motor? Just curious where this kits power limit is.

I'm curious at what point the curvaceous intercooler piping would become a restriction. And when their stage 3 turbo will run out of steam.

Hey guys, I was going to get a Stage 3 AVO turbo kit for my 86 but ran into some confusion. I have been trying to figure out the difference between stage 2 and stage 3 turbo's and I am under the impression it's just a billet turbo that is rated for better flow? Can someone please confirm this for me. Also I am thinking of running low boost numbers as I am running on a stock engine. Would it be possible to tune it for flex fuel with boost varying from 8psi up to 13psi (using a GFB electronic boost controller)?

Also a very big confusion is what the car would feel like (in terms of spool time and where power comes on) in comparison to a stage 1 or 2 avo turbo. I only have this confusion as the kits have the same turbo but stage 3 is "billet". I am aiming at getting increased power but still have boost coming on as early as the other kit's turbos.

I hope someone answers you cause I have the same questions! Except I'm weird and I prefer the sensation of a more laggy turbo down low that surges up top

Hope I’m putting this in the right spot ! So I’ve had a stage 2 kit for about 6 years and have just found a crack in the down pipe weld . Does anyone know where I’m supposed to order this and is AVO still have a rep in the US . If so how do you get ahold of him or her . Having to pull the engine soon and just want to have all the parts so I don’t have to do the work twice.

Call the phone number on the web site. From what I understand there is a new company handling the USA. They did call back and help me with my blowoff valve. Had it here within a week.

Would it be ok to just have the crack patched up by a welding shop? Would probably take them 2 minutes and save you some $$ ?

Boost Leak?

Hey guys,

having my AVO Kit now for 6 years and ~100k km / 63k miles it is still going strong.

Recently I've noticed a loud surging noise when under load & boost. I haven't noticed a drop in power and also Torque doesn't indicate any loss in boost pressure (tuned to 0.6 bar / ~8,7 psi). But it does sound like a boost leak.

I checked all the accessible tubing and tightened some of the clamps, but the noise is still there. So I removed the original airbox, connected an old can with a valve and put the whole system under pressure with an air compressor.

Video:

I've observed three things:

1. the tubing connecting the blow-off valve to the intake pipe seems to leak slightly

2. the system didn't hold the pressure, but I haven't cranked the engine to TDC, so the valves probably weren't shut

3. oil was burbling from the oil filter adapter probably due to 2.

Now: is that leaky connection between the BOV and the intake piping an issue?

Are there any known spots for boost leaks?

Any other ideas on why I hear air surging while under boost?

Okay, after messaging Lee with AVO, he informed me that the billet turbo flows 25% better and is capable of 400 whp, but the upgraded intercooler and a 3" exhaust are needed to reach that number. Also, it has the same actuator (5 to 8 PSI) as the stock one. My Tuner had me buy a plug and play boost controller. I ordered the billet turbo and bigger intercooler, but I have a built engine that can handle 600 whp daily that is going in. As soon as my engine and kit is installed (I am not going to run boost on a daily stock engine), I will update with my numbers
