The way I understand it is: they use part of the profits from you buying the warranty to pay off some, if not all, of your interest to the bank, so it's as if you were getting a lower interest rate. Payments probably wouldn't be lower after buying a warranty, though less of it goes to interest

It was kind of weird sitting there while he refunded it. It took a while and he wasn't nearly as nice and talkative... He had a brz himself though so I didn't hold it against him.

Oh btw this was at a Subaru dealership so Toyota might be different.
LOL! Their job is to make money off of you on selling warranties and protection plans so I'm sure they would make the cancellation process as awkward and unpleasant as possible

Seems like struggling stealerships make it awkward. My Dodge dealership was awesome about it. Cherokee Toyota was pretty good about getting me my check without me even being there. Handled everything thru email/fax.

I was practically conned into mine. Up front I said a wanted a5 year loan. Once in t the office the shark kept pushing the warranty and I kept saying no. Finally he says he can move some numbers around and get me the warranty for very slightly more in monthly payments. I thought maybe I was getting a deal. ... nope he just added a year to my loan at the very end of the process without telling me. I assumed he did some number crunching with finance charges or something.

I personally wouldn't cancel the road hazard warranty. I purposely got it on my car since in my last car I broke a wheel and got 3 flat tires all from the well maintained roads by me. I don't even want to think about how much money I wasted on that...

Well that's a different story then. I don't have aftermarket wheels and I don't plan on getting any, so having the road hazard warranty is a good idea in my case. Especially considering the quality of the roads around me.

Went to the dealer. Took 10 minutes and done. No hassle or asking to keep it. I was pleasantly surprised. They ended up applying the balance back to the line. I was hoping for a check so I could go out and buy an ofh and and an oft, lol.

Can't speak to this car's warranty, but I bought a wheel/tire warranty with my previous VW GTi. It covered stock and aftermarket. I think it was $200, and it paid for itself the first week I had the car.

Just don't take their word for what you're buying. Read everything!

Because the cost of the warranty is not to pay for the repairs themselves. It's to prepay for the financial protection the warranty gives you. If you purchase a six year warranty, you're prepaying for financial protection against the cost of repairs for those six years. If three years have passed without a warranty claim, you have still been protected during those three years even though you haven't had to call on that protection. So you have gotten what you paid for.

When I cancelled them today I had to ask what the extended service one actually covered. Turns out it was for wear items such as windshield wipers, brakes, etc...I think for $500 I can change my own windshield wipers, lol. Thats what I get for not paying too much attention.

In my defense, I wasn't planning on buying the car the day or time I did. My fiance showed up at the dealer and convinced me to do it, lol.

The extended maintenance service thing is for the average Joes who have no idea how a car works or how to do their own maintenance... nobody on this forum should be buying it

Thats the thing though, it wasn't even for oil changed or anything like that...I mean, I don't think in 5 years of "average person" car usage I would ever use $500 worth of brakes and windshield wipers, lol.

Subaru offers a plan that will fix dings, windshields, broken or lost key fobs, and probably other little stuff and I think it's a good deal. I think it was $300 something for 3 Years and I've already had 2 dings fixed in one year.
