Just swapped out my cabin filter today and realized I had the previous one oriented the WRONG way for the last 30K miles!

If you're using the FRAM filter, make sure the arrow is pointing DOWN! (Air flow goes downward)

Just took out my Wix. Had on for 8k miles or so and it looks like it started melting!!! Well not literally. It's worn pretty well like if it had been rubbed on cement. Bought a MicroGard which is $15 cheaper. We shall see how it does in 8k miles. I recommend a carbon one if you live in big city. Otherwise, any cheap one above $10 works well and serves it's purpose!

Couldn’t you just make your own DIY in-cabin filter with a home HVAC filter like Filtrete and just just it to size especially since they have different levels of filtration?

Yes, you can. Just make sure you have the same amount of area (number of creases/folds). But why bother considering they're cheap. It's still costing you, maybe not in the price but your time.

Where is the actual intake for the fresh air to enter before the filter? I changed my filter but it still smells musty like there is some debris in the actual fresh air intake.
