Thanks!

Picked up my shiny new Apollo Blue 86 GTS yesterday, and drove it home (400km). The mwaap mwaap noises got to be annoying, so this morning the sound tube fell out, and was replaced by a pair of plugs turned from black delrin (40mm dia by 20mm long at the intake, and 18mm dia by 20mm long at the firewall).

Much better!

Just did this. My home Depot did not have a single 3/4 pex plug but they had 5 packs... Still cheaper then then the online kits. Everything works perfectly. Added a new hks dry filter while I was doing everything.

Got my tube out today, used the standard plug and cap. Very happy with the aesthetic difference under the hood. What have y'all done with the zip ties? I was in a hurry (dark + mosquitoes) and couldn't remove them easily. Do they pull out of their little mounts if you just tug with some pliers?

I've never been able to grab the mosquitos around here with pliers. I usually just smash them, or use those fun electric badminton-style rackets. Wasn't aware they had mounts.

Just sack up and yank it out son. Use your flathead for leverage to loosen it if you got noodle arms. Youre damaging the zip tie which is easily replaceable

Are you high?

Did you just respond to yourself?

I also had a very hard time with the firewall connection way back when. The TRD intake required removal of the sound tube and included a cap, hardest damn part was how to cut the zip tie or even yank it out but it eventually came free.

If you're looking for the easiest solution... pull the plug in the footwell, shove a bit of paper towel or tissue into it snug and put the stock plug back in. Stealth delete. I haven't tried this as my car arrives tomorrow =

Update: I plugged with a plastic end cap usually used for lawn irrigation piping. Secured with silicon.

To those still attempting this on your car. Just sharing some stuff I’ve learned while removing the sound tube. The 2 grey zip tie looking clips can be removed without breaking it, use a small plyer to squeeze the clip to release it. The one plugged into the chassis, just yank it straight up holding on to the plastic L joint for leverage. For the plugging of holes at the intake pipe as well as at the firewall, I was able to use black rubber boots normally meant for furniture leg base, to my surprise it was a snug fit.
