Just bought a 2018 BRZ, need some help!

Happy to finally be on the forums! I just purchased a 2018 BRZ that is mostly stock besides an oil catch can and Tein Flex Z coilovers. I want the car to be as stock as possible so looking to swap out the coilovers for a slightly used suspension. Does anyone know if there were any suspension updates made between 2017 and 2018? Or if 2017+ BRZ/86 suspensions are identical? I found some used 2017 SACHS dampers on Ebay and Facebook, so I'm wondering it it's a good idea to jump on those, or should I just wait it out until i find some 2018s for sale?

Being that you have the '18 the oem ones are pretty good starting point.

Definitely. I heard 2017+ has the best suspension setup. Hoping to come across some 2018s, no luck as of yet.

Are the 2018 Toyota 86 stock suspension parts identical to those for the 2018 BRZ? My understanding is the suspension setup is the same between both cars after 2017. Seems to be a little harder to find the stock struts/shocks for the BRZ than it is for the 86.

Bump! Found some oem 2018 86 shocks/struts nearby. Want to confirm they will fit fine and the handling will be identical to the 2018 BRZ parts.

Not 100% sure on the shocks/struts having the same settings as those in the BRZ, but they will definitely fit perfectly as they are interchangeable between the two cars.

Thanks! yeah I figured the fit shouldn't be a problem. Just hesitating, as I rather keep the stock handling characteristics on the car, and not sure if the 86 setup is the same.

Someone will answer this better as I don't know exactly, but I believe they are close to the same (in reference to suspension setup). Particularly the springs and shocks will not be significantly different between the two cars (if they even are) enough to change the handling characteristics much. Now if you're talking the PP Sachs dampers, then it's a different story.

Thanks for your help anyways! I’m also thinking about swapping in some 2017 SACHS dampers. But that I know I wouldn't have a problem with. Just trying to get the best bang for buck. The SACHS I’ve found are around $350 versus $100 for the 2018 86 parts.

The 2017 and 2018 are virtually the same with the exception of the radio head unit and the turn signal functions. The chassis are the same. Knowing this, I bought a 2017 (10/17 build) at a very good price April 2018. I was going to order a 2018 and pay cash, but the sales manager wanted to sell his last 2017 (wrong color) and gave me a hard time. Went to another dealer 30 minutes away and got exactly what I wanted and then bought an Ascent from the same dealer. I can't help myself from telling this cautionary tale about letting customers walk off the lot. Anyway, the only thing I did for my BRZ is change out the tires and left all else alone which suits my purpose. The general consensus among myself and my buddies is this: start with tires, then brakes, suspension and go from there. The seconds or fraction of seconds you may loose because of power can be made up by being able to go faster through the turns. A to B is never a drag race in a straight line. That is knuckle dragger stuff.
