There isn't any oil going throuhh said pipe just coolant. If you don't want to use that pipe as your return feed you could T off the heater hose instead.

Also how different is this from say a Perrin oil cooler?
Perrin is an air-oil oil cooler this is water cooled.

I take it that since the FXT is a turbo this oil cooler is good enough to be used for all the other FI systems i.e. Vortech, KW, JR etc.?
Yes

Do we actually need all those extra parts?
You COULD plumb it in differently, I wanted it to look and fit like OEM.

That is why I bought everything needed and made this write-up

Kostamojen answered your other questions, but I suppose with a pipe bender and some time you could bend the rear-facing tube to be straight up. Or you could try to cut the bent part off and add a new bead to the pipe then install the heater hose.

Other option would be to weld a pipe to fit a 3/8 inch hose onto the BRZ water pipe near where the oil cooler hose would join the FXT pipe.

I went for a bolt-on solution and thats why I used almost all of the OEM parts without modification.

The other oil cooling kits I viewed seemed to make more sense in that you're running the oil through a radiator type device to air cool it during hard driving... So I guess I just don't understand how this "wet" system works.

Not knocking the system, just trying to improve my horrible mechanical knowledge!

Thanks!
It's using the coolant to heat/cool the oil.

When oil is colder than the coolant, the coolant heats up before the oil, so this supposedly will bring the oil up to operating temperature faster.

When oil is hotter than the coolant, the coolant cools off the oil.

Great write up OP! Will look into this, seems like a good oil cooling solution!

Just ordered everything through Wilde Subaru. 285.22 after tax.

Thanks so much for the write up and parts list. For someone who drives in the winter, and drives hard in the summer, this seems like a great, great mod.

Awesome, really simple and clean. Wish I could run a cooler, I would like this over a external heat exchanger for sure.

So that company doesn't seem to ship, and it's distributors are all out of AU. On ebay I can find an M18, M16, and M12 but not an M14. Did you get yours locally?

TIA

So this does effectively put the cooler in parallel with the heater core?
I like it but might prefer to have the cooler after the radiator, I'll have to take a look at mine and see if that is even possible

I realized this last night, but have a new solution!

You will need 2 fittings:
http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS-Performan...ductId=1281861 <- JEGS -8AN Female to 1/2 hose barb

http://www.jegs.com/i/Russell/799/670490/10002/-1 <- Russell M14x1.5 to -8AN Male

Hook these 2 fittings together and you are set.

I got lucky and my co-worker had a M14x1.5 to 1/2 barb fitting for me to use.

updating the first post now.

Mike

So if you are more concerned with an easy installation that works more than looking factory, you could just tap into the heater core supply and exit lines with tee fittings, run the hoses as you see fit and be done with it, quick and painless, correct?
Thank you for posting this. I like it.

Edit: Just finished checking out the other thread and it looks like the cooler needs to be plumbed in sequence to maintain pressure to force water through the cooler. Putting it effectively in parallel with something like the heater core won't work as well because the coolant will take the path of least resistance through the heater core.

Edit 2: Just finished reading the how-to portion of this thread more carefully and it looks like the cooler is installed in parallel and appears to work, so the other thread has bad information.

Can someone who knows please clarify this?
