Best Buy/Sonic Electronix/Crutchfield speaker replacement

All I want is direct plug and play speakers for the doors. A simple saturday afternoon take of the door panel type of day. Ive called a bunch of retailers and they give me excuses about the door speakers not having proper fitment.

Has anyone found a good over the counter direct plug and play door speaker for the two side doors. I am leaving the 4 speakers on the dash and the two rears in place. Just want a cheap simple upgrade for the doors as they have limited range and seem to struggle...

How simple is this? I would look into getting something like this as well (will keep it looking fairly stock as well).

No different than any other speaker install. They just need to be shallow mount so the window doesn't hit the speaker on the way down.

Window doesn't even get close to where the speaker sits. I ran the window up and down when I was doing the install to make sure of this .

You won't get "direct plug and play". The stock speakers have this funky plastic mounting bracket and the stock holes are not in "normal" positions. You could drill new holes in you door.... shudder....

So a couple of things that you should consider. You'll need a mounting bracket. You could buy one of those crappy black adjustable plastic ones, or get one that's custom made for the car like
http://www.subaruaudio.net/subaru-sp...nd-scion-fr-s/

Or you could make your own.

The second thing to consider and really the reason you are doing this, is you want your new speakers to push up against the door trim - this seals the speaker and pushes ALL the sound out into your car where you want it. The factory speakers actually do this. If you do that your mid bass will bang.

Oh, and while you have the door trim off, I'd put in some sound deadening

Installed these today: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...rchPageIndex=1

The plastic bracket was a little small for the hole cut for the stock speakers, but I ended up fastening 2/3 screws and double side taped the the last hole that didn't quite line up. This set also comes with crossovers which I managed to fit inside the door panel with relative ease. This set does not come with wiring (between speakers and crossover). I used stock wiring to the head unit.

I removed the stock tweeters from the stock white adapter, attached the new tweeters to the same base, so I could attach the new tweeters without messing around with wiring. I did not connect the New tweeters to the crossover ... As well it was all the way inside the door.

Overall, great sound. Door speakers have a very heavy low end. They do not distort or rattle like the stock speakers. I did not upgrade the stock amp, and still sounds great.

Hope this helps!

Does anyone know what the speaker specs are for the door speakers? Are those infinity's a decent bump or just a small one?
