Small subwoofer in rear side panel?

Has anyone attempted to put a small subwoofer behind one of the rear side panels next to the rear seats? I've seen pictures of the panels off and it looks like there's a lot of space back there.

Problem is the depth. I had my entire interior apart last year looking at expanding my existing system. Even at 6" the depth of most mid to top tier subs just are (too deep) for those cavities, obviously 8" and up te magnets get (more depth) needed..
As fellow above mentioned you can customize some small enclosures, I seen that thread however it comes down to enough airspace for the enclosure to work within it's optimum range, the back trunk area is so much easier to work with and obtain te room for .50-1.0 cubic feet enclosures..

Thus resort to back corners and run subs/enclosures there. The best balance comes from that distance anyhow so all good.

I saw this picture on here:

What do you think about mounting subs and amps in a top box for easy disconnect?
I pulled out my OEM sound tube - I was thinking about hooking it back up and feeding it in from the top box through the antenna hole...

ok - it's bed time

If you place a 3/4" baffle against the metal behind the rear plastic bits you can fit a sub with 6" depth, 6 1/2" if its a 10" sub and you center it a bit lower as the outside sheet metal curves out toward the bottom.

I fit a 12" sub with 5 3/4" mounting depth.

I'm sure that you could fit the JL 13" in there also, but it might be not enough air space. My recommendation if you do this project is to cut out all the metal you can, relocate electronics and grounds, and make a solid box out of fiberglass. I used the marine grade foam and fiberglass combination and it took countless hours to finally make it fully air tight. Very messy and not fun at all. Definitely not for the faint of heart, you must have balls to do this. Or be stupid and stubborn, like me!
