Why do you say that? In all likelihood, the percentage will go down, as new homes are built in place of old homes, as new systems replace old systems, and as they incentivize early upgrades. Even if natural gas use switched from home use to electricity production, even if total use went up, the percentage will likely drop as more renewables come online faster. Remember that solar is also required on new homes.

In 2001 NG made up 55%. In 2013, NG peaked at 60%. By 2021 it was down to 48% and trending down.

Natural gas is one of the cheapest, cleanest fuels there is. Hundreds of tons of it go into the air every year because we don't have the storage capacity.

Natural gas is not unlimited like oil where extraction will deplete resources faster than they can be replenished. It won’t be cheap forever. Burning it is better than coal, which is why California is burning it instead of coal, but it is releasing CO2, which is the other issue, and its use leads to a lot of leakage, as several people have mentioned. This is an issue because methane is a far more potent greenhouse gas having 80x the warming effect as CO2 in the short term.

Maybe you are thinking that we should trap methane and burn it because CO2 isn’t as bad as methane, but CO2 has a longer half-life, so it has a more long term effect. It isn’t like we can do much about burping and farting cows besides decreasing consumption, so capturing natural releasing methane from plants and animals isn’t really going to happen. In general, there is a balance with natural production and absorption anyways. The problem is artificial production from drilling and fracking. The problem is the volume of industrial farming. But you might have a case for capturing methane from landfills. The BMW factory in South Carolina captures their waste from a field behind their factory to produce energy for the factory. In that case, maybe it is better to burn it. Seems more reasonable and possible because waste is controlled/centralized.

I will say that is 100% not the case.
Had 3 types of cooking in 3 separate houses growing up.
Electric Glass top.
OG Electric coil.
Gas.

Gas was hands down the best and I was sad when my dad renovated and went electric. But he also didn't listen and wire up the whole house with Cat-5e too.

Also not sure if it was a joke or not. Gas companies put a smell chemical in the gas so you can definitely smell it when it's leaking. Same with propane. Green gas for airsoft is the same as propane it just doesn't smell like farts.

I only have a (top reviewed) countertop induction to try it out but...
Eggs in cast iron were horrible. Overcooked in the middle, raw around the edges. Not sure more than the 5" coil was working but it was weird
Tried boiling water. 2c in 2(.5?)min. Tried a (round bottom) wok, had to balance right on the glass and took 5min to boil 2c.
Maybe this isn't an the best example of what a good induction cooktop can do but I'm so far unimpressed. Maybe it's defective. Maybe I'm not using it right yet. I mean, nice boiling time. But also a lot of useless pots and pans and only some of which I can find induction alternates. I'd love to ditch gas. Right now the "vent hood" is the limiting factor gas or not doesn't matter. Stir fry sets off alarms and makes my lungs hurt. Kitchen redo on the list if we can ever find contractors... So this is a decision I have to make, and soon.
