It's been a while since I've posted but it's definitely happened to me like 8 or 9 times total. And no loss of power or signs of this about to explode. It did it again today on the highway and I threw it in second and took it to 7.5k to see what would happen while it was making the noises. If the engine is gonna blow up I want it to happen already!! I need to know! |

I think it's something with the DI switching over or something. Goes away and car runs fine...

Unknown Engine Rattling (Video)
Interesting. Haven't heard that theory yet. Im really hoping it's a non detrimental sound: I'm dying to run e85 but I'm afraid of noise! That Effin noise. I'm gonna have nightmares about it. Once I get the OFH installed im tempted to go e85 with the oft and say Eff it

I listened to your videos and read through your post. You sound very confident that is the problem. How are you sure? |

sound like an injector seal failure.
As for why its only doing it sometimes and seemingly randomly, that could be due to temps, differing fuels, different loads. any number of things. But, in your first video it almost sounded like a spun bearing. Most likely just poor sound quality. I would tell your dealer to replace all your injectors, seals and check all lines/rails. |

Have you flashed back to stock tuning to see if the noise persists?

I have not, and I probably should. Thats a good idea. Ill flash back for week or something and see if it happens. I moved to Boulder Colorado from St. Louis about three months ago and that's when it started happening. I was running the e85 open flash tablet tune in St. Louis for several months before I moved and I never got that sound. Since the move I went back to the stage 1 tune and have been on 91 oct out here. |

So long story short. The dealership can't seem to reproduce the clanking and now want to get Toyota involved.
I flashback to stock but should I be worried about the flash counter on the ECU. I wouldn't normally worry about it but since they're getting actual Toyota technicians to come look more deeply at the problems I want to be a bit more cautious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Shouldnt be worried about that.
They would have to prove that anything you did directly caused the failure of a part in question, otherwise they cannot deny you anything based on a mod. |

I have experienced the exact same sound. It happened 3 times, and I just bought the car on Saturday. I've got about 500 miles on it. I am in Colorado at the moment. I live in Iowa, so I will see if it still happens at lower altitudes and on 93 octane gas. I have read a few threads describing similar sounds, and all of the posters mention being at high altitude.
