I offered to make his resume, but he's very stubborn, and wanted to do it himself. Fast forward to today, he hasn't gotten any luck getting another job, despite places like McDonalds offering $500 bonuses. So again, I asked to take a look at his resume. Thing is all over the place, the one that got me was under the "Education" section. For his college degree, which he has only finished two years of, he literally wrote " I have not finished this". Bruh.

He made a category for "Software", he wrote "Word". I can't.........
Yeahhh, I'm familiar with this kinda thing. Several months back my brother asked me to review his resume because he does have a full degree but is working sort of a deadend job and he wanted to look elsewhere.

So I'm reading through, and his technical skill section mentions Word and Powerpoint slides.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that that on a resume would've been good like 15+ years ago but now it's basically expected that anyone can do it..

I wouldn't be too hasty on condemning people that include those. There are many positions we fill where having those listed as skills on the resume will at least get you an interview. May seem outdated to those that work in the IT field but many jobs it is still good info to include.
The bigger issue we have is that many people that say they are "proficient" in the Office suite have a radically different definition of exactly what the word means!

I was reading non-86/BRZ fb group page and read some odd topic. In Toyota Highlander fb gp topic that's going crazy among members is "I'm keep getting flashed by on-coming traffic. Don't have high bean on. What should I do?" or "How can I lower my headlights, so I don't blind the other drivers." And always, there are 2 follow-up comments. Comment 1 "Yeah! I flash them to show that it's on my low bean." Comment 2 "You should be shame of yourself for scaring other drivers by blinding them! You should go to the dealership & get it fix!"

& I thought, "Dude, which exhaust should I get" or "I can't see my brake pads" were dumb questions... clearly, proven wrong.

My father in law has a Nissan Rogue that has one headlight aimed all the way up. The dealershit apparently checked the aim and said it was fine so now he doesn't believe me. Nissan also sucks in general so..

Take it back with your dad, and watch them do it.

Find a building or wall from which you can back away on level ground. Go there with your dad at night.

Lol my FIL you mean? I've done it on my cars before, I just never got around to fixing the aim on this one.

We actually gave them back the Tribeca in September. He hates/hated the Rogue anyway. Hopefully they got rid of it by now.

Drove to San Jose today. Took the twin. Made great time, even with the hour accident delay just west of Truckee. Car ran great, and got about 30 mpg. People drive crazy in Cal, and way too many people!

there was an article a number of months back from some branch of harvard studying how there can be so many people currently out of work, and so many companies with large amounts of open positions.

one of the findings came down to the algorithms that HR dept's use to vet possible candidates, and if the candidates resume didn't have the exact details that the job requirement had, there's a nearly-zero chance of the candidate making it past the initial vetting process.

so HR could be looking for a new janitor, list one of the requirements as "must be able to clean toilets", and the algorithm would kick any resume's that didn't list that. despite the fact that there's likely a few dozen candidates that would have at least 5+ years janitorial experience cleaning toilets.

the gist of it seemed to imply that because of the #algorithms, we all need to be including a buzzword list at the bottom of resume's like a craigslist ad to attempt to beat the system. but keep it under 1 page. and make the info clear to read.

yeah, it's impossible to get a job anymore thanks to computers.

That is assuming that the only way places recruit is through agencies and electronic resumes. Also more relevant to tech or professional positions not the many many jobs in places such as fast food. Does not explain why posting or big signs screaming HELP. WANTED do not get people showing up in person to apply. We have been trying to get factory labourers for months. No electronic screening done at any point. We have had a total of 4 people apply. The rest of the factories around here have had the same thing.
If people are sitting at home waiting for a computer to find them a job that is their own fault not the systems.
