Well, I suggest you go in and have a chat with the postmaster of your local post office. Maybe he/she will compensate you with a free roll of stamps -

they're likely just snippy because every other week is a new story on how the post office is going to be soon de-funded(which my limited understanding of our political system basically makes this a non-issue in the first place-- my understanding is that the federal government basically requires a federally-funded mail service in some form or another for any and all federal communications like voting, taxing, and checks to pass through).

Meh, USPS is reeeally shitty nowadays to be honest. I'm fully for the whole reinvest more money into them thing but I'm not gonna vouch for them.

And this is coming from a guy whose grandfather was a lettercarrier for several decades after fighting in WWII, and also whose father also was a lettercarrier for several years.

USPS is reeeally shitty.

My apartment is just on an easily-accessible second floor (but safe in terms of if a package is left at my door it's not easily visible) and for the first 5 or 6 years I lived here I'd get those notes from the carrier in my mailbox (on the street curb in one of those 10 or whatever box compound boxes) that say "you weren't here for us to deliver the package, you'll need to come pick it up from the main facility." But easily 80% or more of those times I _was_ home and literally nobody came up to my unit (I practically have a proximity alarm because the stairs/wooden floor right outside my unit shake the whole side of the building whenever someone runs up and down them).

So in order to get them to actually come up instead of acting like they were, I had to go to the main PO one day and sign some kind of form that they had to leave packages at my door regardless of if I'm home or not. So basically I had to waive the signature requirement for packages for posterity. While it had the benefit of actually forcing carriers to deliver to my apartment, it also meant I no longer have the ability to not be home and require a signature.

I'll vouch for USPS in a heartbeat. In Hungary, if one wishes to be confident that a parcel of any value actually makes it to the recipient, DHL to the rescue. The normal postal service cannot be trusted.

Corruption becomes the exception when people are paid a living wage. IMHO and experience, USPS remains the standard for dependability.

I've had better luck with USPS than UPS or FedEx historically.
