As crazy as it sounds, for me the pontoons or bumps or curves or whatever you want to call them just HAVE to be visible to me from the driver's seat. It makes all the difference.

One of the (many, many) things I loved about the 1992 Porsche 911 I once owned (and NEVER should have sold, just another in a very long line of mistakes and bad choices I've made in life...) was the ability to see those delicious, sensuous front fender pontoons through the windshield from the driver's seat. It's one of the little things that gives be a bit of a thrill with the styling of my current BRZ, a tiny little reminder of my long lost 911(hey, I'm old, I've got to get my pathetic little thrills wherever I can find them).

If I could see real pontoons from the driver's seat in the new car, it just might seal the deal for buying it (providing of course that the new engine is as much of a seat-of-the-pants improvement in driving feel as many of us are hoping it will be). But no visible pontoons, and I'll probably keep my current car.

Bumps matter.

+1 on being able to see something of the front corners of the car. I've driven a few modern cars in which you can see absolutely nothing of the front end beyond the base of a (ludicrously canted) windscreen, and I would NEVER consider buying a car with such a forward view.

I don't mind it and from the front I think the car looks fine but the backend looks like they just cobbled on some stuff. Doesn't seem to flow to me. But overall I think it looks nice, not gonna get rid of my current one for it.

But in all reality I initially didn't like the first gen in pictures (because of the fender bumps) but in person it won me over.

Beg to differ. I find this post incredibly credible.

This is what the car actually looks like, in real life:

Yes, you'll see pontoonage from the cockpit. I mean, you see the current-gen fender bumps, right? And they're actually not all that big/protuberant...
Damn what’s that red car!? Makes the blue car look like dog shit.

Damn what's that blue car? Makes the red car look like it's suffering from a bad case of cut-rate orthodontia.

I like the idea of having a totally open view out front, with the nose dropping away from the windshield such that you don't see anything through it but the outside world and the road unfolding before you... This is possible in a mid- or rear-engine car because the front wheels are positioned immediately in front of the cockpit. The 911 has this open front view except for the fender pontoons. Which look cool! But I think I'd enjoy the more wide-open view out the windshield from the drivers seat of a flat-nose 911

In an FR car, the front wheels are further forward relative to the driver, so some kind of fender/hood action is most likely going to be visible.

Honestly, the '22s fenders are more pontoonlike than current-gen fender bumps, which are more like a very understated version of Opel GT fenders. '22 definitely more P-car/pontoonish...

Depending on how tall you are and how the seat is adjusted, you should see *some* pontoonage... Honestly though, I LOVED my 240Z's pontoon fenders but with race seat installed LOW, I couldn't see them from inside the car. But I loved the idea of a major mass being positioned as low as possible at the track a lot more than being able to see the fenders!

The side profile of the twins is very Porsche like. Especially a Cayman.

I don't like the taillights. They look like they were taken of of a modern sedan. I rather have classic sports car looking taillights, but I guess that's modern styling. I was never really crazy about the original taillight either. At least they look better than the Mazda MX-5.
