Keeping The Interior Clean

I noticed a bit of a weird smell when I picked up my car and I'm attributing it to being used. I'm taking it to get an interior detail but was wondering for future reference, how yall keep it clean/smelling nice?

I feel vent clips and scents that hang off the rear view cheapen the look of the car and was looking for personal advice before I gear up and look across the interweb. Thanks!!

A new cabin air filter would probably help.

I have squash air freshener for smell. I have a bottle of chemical guys inner clean, and a bottle of dilluted ONR which I use to clean up interior. Some brushes to get into crevices.

Change the stock cabin filter out for a washable one. Once a month or so pull, clean and give a shot of unscented fabreeze. The whole operation takes about 5 minutes.

no food or drinks! carne asada fries you couldnt get to underneath the seats will def smell.....

change cabin air filter every few months. i dont use fresheners, can be sensitive to strong fragrants.. car still has that new car smell (kinda), goal is too keep it that way or neutral as much as possible.

a steam clean of the fabrics might help smell keep it more neutral? have thought about hiding small packs of charcoal in the interior to eliminate odor, have not tried yet though.

I remember seeing a thread about someone reporting that rubber seals inside the trunk of the vehicle, underneath the carpet and liner were missing or just damaged, which would allow for water to enter. This would create a mushy and moldy smell inside the car. I don't know if someone else has seen this too. Other than that, detailing was a smart idea because you never know how much or how little care was giving to the interior of the car. Swapping the filters is super easy and there's videos on YouTube about it, check out the instructions by ftspeed channel. They got lots of other info too.

So im guessing that doesnt do anything to make it smell fresh huh? I'm warming up to the idea of taking a washable air filter and giving it a shot of febreeze or something as was suggested in a previous comment to help the car have a certain scent on it thats not through a vent clip or rear view mounted incense. Thoughts?

Vent clips and incense holders only mask odours. A good cabin filter will eliminate them.
